When TikToker @munchy5612 agreed to dog-sit for her sister-in-law’s 10-year-old pooch, Marco, she expected the usual rundown: feeding schedule, favorite treats, maybe a note about his naps.

What she didn’t expect was a full-blown emotional support protocol.

“Like any good parent, she left instructions on how to properly care for him throughout the weekend,” said @munchy5612, adding that bullet point number four on the list was something to behold.

The majority of the list included basic instructions and things to know about Marco, such as how he acts when he’s hungry, how to tell when he’s thirsty, what it means when he stretches dramatically, and how to bring him out of hiding. The fourth bullet point on the list was different and had to do with boosting his mood.

“If he’s sad, you can temporarily cheer him up by calling him a handsome man. He really loves it when you sing, ‘Who the handsome man, who the handsome man.'”

TikToker @munchy5612 had never heard of this song before. Well, it turned out that her sister-in-law had made the whole song up and recorded it, lyrics, beat, and all.

Apparently, it was written, produced, and performed regularly for a 10-year-old dog. She was both equally flabbergasted and impressed by the song’s quality.

Naturally, she played the song in her video, which delighted the internet. Pet owners everywhere immediately demanded the studio version and even chimed in with their own musical rituals.

Serenading pets is just a universal language of love.

“She needs to go ahead and take that to the studio and make a video. It’s catchy, as I’m about to play it for my fur baby,” commented one user.

“I have to cradle my 55-lb heeler/rat terrier/husky mix every night and sing the full version of ‘You are my Sunshine’ for him to go to sleep. I cannot sing ‘Please Don’t Take My Sunshine Away.’ It has to be ‘Please, don’t take my Gizzy Moto away.’ And if I don’t sing it with Gizzy Moto or the second verse, he loses his mind, and I have to settle him back down to sing again,” wrote another.

“My 12-year-old Yorkie used to love being called a pretty boy, but now in his elder puppy years, he definitely prefers Handsome Man. So going to play this for him later,” chimed in a third.

Overall, Marco is not the only dog who thrives on praise and personalized anthems. As for @munchy5612, she survived the weekend, bonded with Marco, and was left with a renewed appreciation for the pet-parent commitment. The world might be a kinder place if we all had someone to sing us a song to cheer us up when we’re feeling down.
