About a month ago, TikToker Ashley Hibbs (@ashleyhibbs1) rescued a sick dog that wouldn’t eat solid foods. So, she put together a dog-friendly charcuterie board of all the foods she might want to try.
“Starting off with wet dog food, some cubes of cheese, some sandwich meat, canned chicken breast, and plain white rice,” said Ashley.
“I have some little dog food and some big dog food. I’m going to put chicken and beef broth on it.”
She also added an edible calorie gel. She thinks the dog might be more comfortable eating if left alone for a while. She is also working with a veterinarian to make sure her rescue dog is being fed properly.
After leaving the house for two hours, Ashley returned home to check if the dog had eaten anything. Sadly, the charcuterie board was untouched. But with Ashley’s presence and encouragement, her dog actually felt safe enough to gobble up all the sandwich meat.
In a follow-up video, Ashley explained how the dog came to join the household. She rescued the dog, named Miss Spink, from the Dallas Animal Shelter.
The shelter was overflowing with animals. When she visited the shelter, she saw Miss Spink curled up in the back of a kennel. She was coughing and was very skinny. Ashley had to carry the dog to her car.
As soon as they got home, Miss Spink became extremely anxious. She was unfamiliar with her new surroundings and seemed to be breathing slowly. Ashley gave her a bath, which seemed to help. The next day was rough because Miss Spink wasn’t really eating at all.
“Day three was the big turning point,” said Ashley. “She started feeling a lot more comfortable. She ate her first solid foods, ate all of her medicine, and held it all down. She was looking really, really happy.”

Overall, Miss Spink has made significant improvements in her health. She gets along well with Ashley’s other dogs. She’s not coughing anymore, and she can sleep on her own. She loves running around and playing with toys.
In the comments section, many TikTok users’ eyes were brimming with tears over how heartwarming the bond between Ashley and her rescue dog is.
“She probably doesn’t want to eat alone. My dog will actually wait for everyone to be seated before she eats,” commented one user.
“She just needed a little company and some encouragement. Thank you for treating her with so much patience and care,” wrote another.
“When my pup was sick, we gave her pumpkin purée, no added anything, and it helped with her bellyache,” stated a third.
“Sit down and eat something at the same time, like a bowl of cereal. That’s how my dog likes to eat, like a family together,” chimed in someone else.
