It absolutely breaks my heart to hear about any animal that has been abandoned or abused instead of loved. In New Orleans recently, someone dumped a standard poodle in a box labeled “free dog,” and thank goodness someone with a heart of gold found this poor pup, who has since been named Goldilocks.
The person who came across Goldilocks scooped her up and quickly rushed her to a nearby animal shelter, where the employees were horrified by her condition.
“She was severely matted, dangerously thin, and so weak she could barely move. The shelter staff performed an emergency shave and discovered she was only 15 pounds, less than half of what a healthy standard poodle her age should weigh,” a GoFundMe page created by Creole Poodle Rescue to help raise funds for the care of Goldilocks explained.
“Large sores had formed on her elbows, and she was extremely dehydrated. Despite her suffering, Goldilocks managed a gentle tail wag, showing her sweet spirit even in the worst circumstances.”
The shelter realized that Goldilocks was in such bad shape that she would need more intensive care, so they contacted Creole Poodle Rescue for assistance.
Creole Poodle Rescue got Goldilocks to Baton Rouge to be seen by the veterinarians at Sherwood South Animal Hospital and Emergency Care Center.
Goldilocks was in such rough shape when she arrived that she could not stand up, let alone carry the weight of her own head. She has since been hospitalized and will need to stay there for at least a week.
Goldilocks has gotten a blood transfusion and bandage changes for the severe wounds on her elbows. In the next several weeks, Goldilocks will have to undergo surgery for skin grafting in order to correct her elbows, which are down to the bone.
The medical treatment that Goldilocks requires is costly, and since Creole Poodle Rescue is a tiny organization, they have reached out to the public for donations.

“We are not a group that holds fundraisers every week, but Goldilocks’s situation is urgent. We are asking for your help; no amount is too small,” Creole Poodle Rescue went on to say on their GoFundMe page.
“Your donation will go directly toward Goldilocks’s medical care and recovery, giving her the second chance she deserves. Please consider supporting her journey back to health. Thank you for caring about Goldilocks and for being part of her rescue story.”
In an update on their Facebook page, Creole Poodle Rescue shared a sweet video of Goldilocks taking careful steps across the grass.
Approximately a week ago, that wasn’t something Goldilocks could do, given how weak she was, so she is making progress every day.
