Buying a house with someone is one of the biggest commitments you can make in a relationship, and there are many reasons not to jump into it headfirst.

What would you do if you were considering purchasing a home with your partner, but then they threw a plate at your head and injured you?

This 27-year-old man lives in the Netherlands, and he just dumped his 26-year-old girlfriend, even though they share a toddler son.

He says that their relationship has been on shaky ground for quite some time, and they actually split up several times in the past before finding their way back together.

The largest problems they kept encountering were centered on money and their shared future. His girlfriend kept looking at houses for them to buy that were slightly under a million dollars.

Not only that, but she continued to tell him about all of the pricey renovations she was planning, and he was concerned that it was too much of a risk financially, although he has a great salary.

One day, he and his girlfriend got into a fight when he arrived home from work. She was furious about a comment he made earlier in the day.

“The argument escalated, and later that evening, we argued again because she had left our toddler in the bath for about 45 minutes while she was on the phone,” he explained.

“Things got heated, and she tried to spray soap water in my face. I pushed/kicked her away, which I admit was wrong. The next day, we talked about what we were going to do with the relationship.”

“During that conversation, I told her I no longer wanted to buy a house together because our relationship felt too unstable and we argued too often. When I said that, she became extremely angry and threw a plate at my head in front of our toddler. The plate shattered a glass lamp, and I ended up with cuts on my hands.”

As soon as that happened, he dumped his girlfriend and told her to leave the house. She respected his wishes and moved in with her mom, taking their son with her.

His girlfriend is now going around telling everyone that he destroyed their relationship because he didn’t want to go ahead and purchase a house with her.

He does get to see his son every Wednesday, and he gets him on alternating weekends right now, so he is not going to abandon his son just because he’s no longer with his girlfriend. Also, he will still ensure his son has what he needs and will pay to help support him.

He’s left wondering if he’s a jerk for not wanting to buy a house with his girlfriend and dumping her after she threw a plate at his head and injured him.

All things considered, no, I don’t think he’s wrong for breaking up with his girlfriend, because how she behaved is insane and dangerous.

Also, he shouldn’t let her have full custody of his son, especially since she left this poor kid in the bathtub alone for 45 minutes. His child easily could have drowned!
