When TikToker Kate (@katesawyer87) fell down the stairs and became unconscious, her three-year-old son Finley saved the day by calling emergency services. She is sharing a recording of the phone call, which has gone viral.

On July 1, 2025, Kate fell from the top of the basement stairs to the bottom while at home alone with Finley. Fortunately, she and her husband had taught Finley how to call 911 on their phones, so that’s exactly what he did.

He explained to the 911 operator that his mom had fallen a long way down the stairs. He was also able to answer many of the operator’s questions, such as his name, most of his address, and whether his mom was breathing.

Finley managed to hold a full 16-minute conversation with the operator. During the phone call, he also introduced the operator to his pets, including his dog Graham, his cat, and two baby chicks.

What was amusing was that the operator thought Finley was saying his grandma was in the home and asked to speak to her. So, Finley brought the phone to his “grandma,” who was really just Graham the dog. Eventually, he figured out that Finley was talking about his dog.

The toddler played with bubbles and rode around on his blue bike while waiting for help to arrive. Most importantly, he stayed calm and did not hang up the phone.

When the operator asked if he could try to wake his mom up, he reported that she made a sound.

Kate and her husband had also taught their son how to open the door in case of an emergency. He unlocked the door for the firefighters and led them over to his mom. Kate ended up in the hospital for a few days, but she has made a full recovery since, thanks to little Finley’s help.

Many TikTok users took to the comments section to praise Finley and the 911 operator for handling the emergency situation so well.

“They should literally use this recording as a training exercise for both 911 operators and little kids like Finley! What an intelligent child!” exclaimed one user.

“I’ve been teaching preschool for 34 years. The maturity and articulation are exceptional! What an amazing kid! And a wonderful mom teaching him exactly what to do!” wrote another.

“I hate how much people underestimate kids and their abilities and intelligence. We never baby-talked to my son, and we didn’t allow others to do it in front of us. We used big words, and my grandmother-in-law would say we were crazy to use words he couldn’t understand, but all words were words he didn’t understand at some point,” commented a third.

“I was a dispatcher for 10 years. Child callers are some of the best callers. They tend to answer so honestly and calmly. It’s amazing,” added someone else.

On July 1, 2025, I had a bad fall from the top of our basement stairs to the bottom and was unconscious. We had taught our 3 year old how to use emergency bypass in our phones to call 911. He and I were home alone at the time and he knew exactly what to do and stayed calm. In fact, he played with the baby chicks in the basement, as you can hear peeping in the background, played with his bubbles, and rode his blue bike. We have gone over a fire escape plan and how to open the door in an emergency. All things that are imporant for children to know. I’ve told him if he doesn’t want to talk, that’s ok, just make sure to call and not hang up, but he opted for a full conversation for 16 minutes! He also knew our town, road and most of our house number! I am so very proud of him! I ended up in the hospital for a few days, but made a full recovery. #911 #911call #tinyhero #fyp #safety
