The other night, TikToker Brooke (@brookeyyycookie) was on a second date with a guy she matched with on a dating app. But this time, the date didn’t go as well as the first. He managed to fumble things without even being at the table.
They met up at a pizza place and were sitting and chatting when a girl suddenly walked in. Brooke’s date realized she was his ex-girlfriend and told Brooke that he would be right back. He got up and went over to say hi.
Brooke thought it was a little weird, but running into an ex can happen anywhere, and a brief greeting is usually not a big deal.
But what was supposed to be a quick exchange turned into a painfully long reunion that left Brooke sitting alone at the table, wondering if she was still on a date at all.
He wound up staying for five, 10, and then 15 minutes, completely absorbed in catching up with his ex. When their food arrived, Brooke tried to call him over.
She figured that would be enough to snap him back to reality. Surely, he’d return for the presence of freshly baked pizza.
However, he wouldn’t even look in her direction. So, she asked the server to let him know the food was ready, but that effort didn’t work either. He brushed the server off and continued talking to his ex as if nothing else in the world mattered.
Brooke was shocked that this was really happening to her. At that point, she had seen enough. Instead of making a scene, she asked the server to pack up her food and leave the check to him.
Then, she took all the food and left, effectively ending the date on her own terms.
In the comments section, many TikTok users overwhelmingly supported her decision and even said that she should have left earlier. Her waiting around for 15 minutes was already more patience than they would have shown.
“I’d leave after five minutes. It simply shows he prioritizes his ex over you,” wrote one user.
“I would have been out the door after the first five minutes,” declared another.
“That’s rough, but the best thing you ever did was pack it up and send him the bill. I’d have ordered a few more things to be extra salty,” commented a third.
“Good exit strategy, and I respect that server for sending him the bill,” chimed in someone else.
At least Brooke left with free pizza. That might be the only silver lining in a date disaster like this one. What would you do if your date got up to say a quick hello to an ex and then seemingly forgot you existed?
