If you’ve ever lived in an old house, chances are that every creak and strange noise you heard can be explained by the house simply settling. But in some cases, the sounds don’t make sense and seem to suggest that something supernatural was lurking just out of sight.

TikToker J.K. (@jessokish) is sharing a spooky story from a follower named Peyton, who had trouble sleeping at night. When Peyton was around four years old, she experienced night terrors.

She usually had the same two or three dreams over and over again. She would wake up screaming loud enough to wake everyone else up as well.

Eventually, her mom took her to see a sleep therapist, and she was prescribed medication to stop the night terrors. She stopped having night terrors after starting the medication, but a new symptom popped up. She began sleepwalking.

At the time, Peyton and her family lived in a two-story house, and her bedroom was upstairs. Almost every single night, she somehow ended up sleepwalking all the way down to the basement. Her mom would find her asleep on the basement floor in the middle of the night.

The basement stairs were old, creaky wooden steps with open backs that were large enough to reach a hand through. When Peyton was six years old, the basement flooded during a storm, so her family was busy renovating the space.

One day, her dad asked her to fetch a tool that he had left in the basement. As she was walking down the stairs, something grabbed her foot and yanked it hard.

The unexpected pull caused her to tumble down the stairs, and she ended up covered in cuts and scrapes. She also bumped her head during the fall. Luckily, she didn’t break any bones.

“Right after it happened, I heard laughing,” narrated J.K. “I assumed it was my older sister trying to scare me, so I turned to yell at her. There was nobody there.”

“The door leading upstairs was closed, and there was nowhere anyone could have gone. I remember sitting there frozen, trying to come up with a logical explanation for what had happened.”

After a few minutes, she rose, snatched up the tool, and ran back upstairs as fast as she could. To this day, she still has no idea what happened. Once Peyton’s family moved out of the house, the sleepwalking episodes stopped.

Now, almost 18 years later, she still drives past the house from time to time and feels like she’s being drawn to it. She just tells herself it’s because she grew up in that house, so there’s a special childhood connection, but she wonders deep down if there might be something more to it.
