Currently, TikToker Kassie’s (@kassiep000) ex-boyfriend is trying to sue her for $42,500. She had previously sued her father and won the court case.
The judge had ordered his house to her. At the time, Kassie and her ex were still together. They had been dating for about a month.
The house needed renovations, so she liquidated her assets and got as much cash as she could to put into the house. She paid for all the renovation materials. Her ex quit his job to help her work on the house. He had been working as an electrician apprentice, making $20 an hour.
“When he quit his job, we were in a relationship, we were talking about building a life together, building a future together,” said Kassie.
“The whole time, he was trying to get me to deposit the money from this house when it sells, into an account with both of our names on it. He wanted full access to all the money.”
Of course, when they broke up, she told him that he wasn’t going to have access to all the money. There had been no written or verbal agreement, but she wanted to recognize the time and effort that he put into the house.
When he quit his job, he had $10,000 to $12,000 saved up. He used that money to pay for rent and utilities in the place they were staying.
After the breakup, she offered him a lump sum of money for his contributions to the house. However, he was unsatisfied with the amount of money and declared that it wasn’t enough. He also threatened her with a lawyer. She told him that if he wasn’t going to take her gracious offer, then he could sue her.
That’s exactly what he’s doing now. She was served with a notice of a pre-lien for $42,500. In this pre-lien, he claimed that he put 700 hours of labor into the house for $55 an hour, which totals to $38,500. He added $2,000 worth of credit card contributions and another $2,000 for his time.

These numbers were all completely fictitious. She sent proof to her ex’s lawyer that the numbers were inflated. If his attorney ends up filing the lien, she will sue both her ex and his attorney for punitive damages and slander of title, respectively.
Overall, her ex did make significant contributions to the house, but he also had ill intentions the whole time and was trying to coerce her out of her inheritance. In the comments section, several TikTok users shared similar situations and offered advice on what she should do.
“Girl! I went through this exact situation! My ex got nothing because we were not married when I got my inheritance, and he also quit his job on his own, and I supported him! Also, there was no contract stating that we agreed on him receiving money to help voluntarily on his own! Look into your state’s laws or at least consult with an attorney!” exclaimed one user.
“He was working you for money. Gross. He did not have to quit working. He chose to. We renovated my house, and my husband worked the entire time when we were dating, in addition to helping me. He was just with you for the money. Don’t give him anything. There was no written or verbal contract. Get a good lawyer,” wrote another.
