When a dad proves his love is conditional on a DNA report, is it any surprise his child wants absolutely nothing to do with him?

This 43-year-old woman has spent the last 13 years married to her 44-year-old husband, and they have two children: a 12-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter.

Several weeks back, her husband approached her while the kids weren’t home and insisted on getting a paternity test for their son.

“I was shocked by his request and asked why, and he didn’t say anything, just asked for the test again. I told him I never cheated or been with another guy; he said he knows I would never do that but just wanted the test,” she explained.

“But soon after our kids came home, I started noticing how he treated our son; he became cold and distant, refusing to spend time with him and not wanting to help with schoolwork.”

“Meanwhile, my husband started favoring our daughter, always taking her out on father-daughter days and always helping with schoolwork. I called him out on it several times, but he never seemed to care and continued doing it.”

Last week, the results of the paternity test came back, and guess who the father of her son is? Her husband. As soon as her husband saw that, he seemed to be full of regret for pushing that test in the first place.

He then went to their son’s room to speak to him. Their son refused to let him in and requested some space. Her husband didn’t put up a fight and simply nodded in response.

She’s currently staying at her friend’s home, along with their daughter and son. She has since filed for divorce and is working out a custody schedule with her husband.

“My daughter sees her dad almost every day and spends time with him. But our son won’t speak to him or spend time with him. My husband has been begging to let him apologize to our son,” she continued.

“I don’t know what to do. On one hand, my husband wants to apologize and see our son. But on the other hand, my son won’t even pick up his phone calls. I’ve tried gently talking to my son about it. But he doesn’t want to see or speak to his father.”

Ugh, her poor kid! Her son must feel so rejected. What her husband did was horrendous and deeply selfish. She needs to let her son know that she will back him up, no matter what he wants, and even if that means he would feel best about cutting her husband out of his life for good.

Her husband couldn’t have made it more clear to her son that he doesn’t love him, and I don’t see how the relationship between her son and her husband will ever be the same again.

What advice do you have for her?
