If your spouse took your pet and tossed them out on the street because they hated them that much, would you still want to stay married to them?
This 32-year-old woman has a dog, and recently, her 31-year-old husband dumped her dog in a parking lot. Her pup is not house trained, and has accidents in the house, which is why her husband hates her.
“He set up the gate outside the house to look like she ran away and then left it 15 miles away in a McDonald’s parking lot. He stuck with the lie and talked about how our child will be sad until I confronted him,” she explained.
“I only realized because there was a Facebook post stating the cross streets where she was found, and it didn’t add up with the timing and distance from the house. The dog is fine; someone saw him do it apparently and found her.”
“I have her back but will be rehoming because clearly she is not safe here. He had mentioned wanting to rehome the dog several times, but I did not take it seriously. Arguments about it have devolved into discussion of divorce and how I am verbally abusive.”
Her husband has no remorse for throwing her dog out like that. She even brought up that he has not said sorry for what he did, to which her husband replied that he doesn’t feel sad about it at all.
She and her husband have two kids, a 9-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son, which has her hesitant to jump to a divorce. What her husband did to her dog is hardly the first time he’s lied to her.
He husband routinely crafts elaborate lies and has a history of doing this. He doesn’t just lie to her; he does it to his grandparents and his parents.
“I feel like I do not know this man. What should I do in this situation? Do I leave him? Is this too egregious for counseling?” she wondered.

Her husband is literally a pathological liar with zero empathy. How does she think she can keep living under the same roof as this man?
Therapy can’t fix her husband’s lack of empathy. I can’t believe he just dumped her dog like that; her dog could have gotten seriously injured.
And since the lie about her dog getting out isn’t an isolated event, she should be worried about what else he’s capable of doing to her and the rest of their family members.
Yes, the dog isn’t safe around her husband, but I don’t think that she and her kids are either. She should give her dog to a family member or board her temporarily while she comes up with an exit strategy.
What advice do you have for her?
