When TikToker Toni (@toniimarmo) was fresh out of her last relationship, she went on the worst date ever. This guy had reached out to her and asked her out. She decided that she deserved a nice dinner because in her last relationship, that never happened.
He picked a restaurant in Philadelphia, which meant she had to drive there. Before he chose the place, she texted him to let him know that she was gluten-free, so if the restaurant didn’t have any gluten-free items, she wouldn’t be able to eat anything. He reassured her that it would be fine.
But when they got to the restaurant and started perusing the menu, Toni saw that there was only one gluten-free thing on the menu, which was a salad.
He then ran into his friends at the bar, chatted with them for about 20 minutes, and invited them to join them, even though they were supposed to be on a date.
“So, all of these boys are now eating all these things in front of me that I can’t have, yapping, having a great time while I’m just sitting there,” said Toni.
“I wanted to leave so bad, but again, right out of a relationship, I didn’t know. My standards weren’t there.”
She ended up ordering the one thing on the menu she could eat. Since she was having such a terrible time, she downed almost an entire bottle of wine. Looking back, it wasn’t the smartest choice.
It wasn’t safe for her to drive home, so she planned to walk back to his apartment with him and order an Uber home. His friends also walked back with them, and they were not gentlemanly whatsoever. They just acted like she wasn’t there.
“None of them were holding the door open for me,” said Toni. “They’re the type to open the door and walk through themselves and just push it to have me go through after.”
“There are 10-year-old boys who wouldn’t do that.”
She called her mom to tell her about the situation she was in, and her mom proceeded to scream at her over the phone for getting drunk.
The Ubers were very expensive, so Toni was hoping that her date would step up and order a ride for her. But he suggested that she stay the night instead.
Toni had to ask her very angry mother to pick her up, and she received a long lecture on the way home. The next day, she had to text this guy again because she left her keys at his place.
Overall, it was not a fun experience. After that, they never spoke again. She has learned never to lower her standards because nothing good comes out of that.
