In a video posted to TikTok on the account @thewildchaosshow, a paramedic shared the worst call he’s ever been on. He was a paramedic in San Mateo County, and one day, he received a call about a young child who had been ruthlessly beaten by her mother’s boyfriend.

The kid was around seven or eight years old. The boyfriend had thrown her out of a window. He was arrested and taken to the hospital.

The child was also rushed to the hospital, where a large team of doctors, nurses, paramedics, and more worked on her for over an hour. Sadly, she was pronounced dead.

To this day, he feels sorry for what the child had to go through. He wishes he were in the ambulance with the mother’s boyfriend so he could mete out justice, but of course, he knows that’s not how it works.

It was the darkest call of his career and still gives him chills whenever he thinks about it. The situation really pierced his soul, especially since he had young kids of his own at the time.

It’s hard to believe that there can be so much evil and cruelty in the world.

The caption of the video is powerful, highlighting the taxing nature of the job: “How do you stay human in a job that shows you the darkest side of people? You don’t forget. You never forget.”

In the comments section, several first responders expressed their feelings about the calls they’ve been on, and it’s definitely traumatic for everyone involved.

“I knew my call was really bad when a new hire (riding on another ambulance that met us at the hospital) quit the next day after witnessing what we brought in. I’ll never forget that. My call made that person decide this wasn’t the career for them,” wrote one TikTok user.

“My mom was a paramedic before becoming an RN. She cries about stories of things she has seen as well,” commented another.

“Drunk driver calls also get me. Nothing ever happens to the drunk driver. Being professional with them is so difficult,” stated a third.
