If you’re going to publicly question the merit of someone’s career, you’d better be sure your own resume is bulletproof.
This woman suffered from a traumatic injury back when she was a kid that resulted in slurred speech and several physical impairments.
Since then, her sister was convinced she used her injury in order to get their mom, dad, and school district to give her special attention.
Anyway, as adults, her sister ended up marrying her boss. She does think that they did things in a professional way, as before their romantic relationship kicked off, her sister and her boss approached HR and had her sister transferred out of the office so her boss no longer had a say over her employment.
As for her, she’s worked for her dad since graduating from college. She never had to go through a formal interview process, and she enjoys the fact that she gets to have lunch with her boss on occasion.
“At work, we have a professional relationship, and I don’t take advantage. I was recently headhunted by a company my dad does business with,” she explained.
“They were impressed with the level of work that was coming out of our shop. I talked to my dad about it, and he said he would be sad to see me go, but the next step up at his company was his job, and he wasn’t going anywhere. So I had his blessing.”
She ended up accepting the new job, and her dad threw her a party to celebrate, inviting their family, friends, and employees.
Her sister and her family attended the party, and it was a wonderful time, until her sister chose to say her accident and resulting traumatic brain injury were helping her succeed.

Her sister referred to her as a DEI hire and said she only landed her new job because of that. She’s been aware of her sister’s feelings regarding the amount of time their parents spent with her following her accident.
However, their parents didn’t ignore or neclect her sister. They attended her school events, put her in extracurricular activities, and paid for her college education.
“I fully acknowledge that there is more to parenting, but from my point of view, they did their best. I just didn’t realize that she still thought I got special treatment because of my condition,” she added.
“No company that I know of would hire me for the job I got if I wasn’t good at it. They could be throwing money away. I was furious that she would say this in public. If she had said it privately, we could have talked it out. But she wanted [it] public.”
She proceeded to call her sister out for sleeping her way to the top, which left her speechless and her husband’s face beet red.
Her kids seemed puzzled. She does feel terrible for how her sister’s kids reacted, and her sister promptly left the party with her family in tow.
Her dad approached her and stated she should have been the bigger person, as her sister still feels delicate about her relationship to this day.
She does feel awful about what she said to her sister, as it was untrue and cruel. It’s been more than a week, and her sister has not responded to any of her calls. She’s left wondering if she was a jerk for clapping back at her sister like that.
How mean of her sister to have done that in front of her former employees and loved ones. Her dad should have stood up for her and kicked her sister out of the party.
It’s also sad that her sister clearly has so much hatred for her for no reason. Let her sister be offended and stay that way, because she’s not worth having a relationship with.
