I think a lot of people miss the memo and try to change their partners, whether it’s their personality or their appearance. But why would you start dating someone if you felt that they had to be someone else, or look different, for you to actually be happy with them?

This 22-year-old girl has spent the last two years with her 25-year-old boyfriend, and he’s told her on plenty of occasions that he doesn’t like her tattoos and her nose ring.

Now, she’s looked like this since way before she met him, and she has very dark hair that’s nearly black (just so you can get an idea of what she looks like).

Earlier today, she and her boyfriend participated in an activity where she was required to take off all of her jewelry and remove her nose ring.

“When I went to put it all back on, he stated I should just leave it off. I told him I understand he doesn’t like it, but I really love all my jewelry and piercings, and that won’t change. I thought nothing of it after that, because it wasn’t a big deal,” she explained.

“Hours later, we are talking, and he tells me that I never take anything into consideration, and all the other girls do. He’s told me to dye my hair (he wants me to go blonde by the way), take out my piercing, and not wear my jewelry.”

“I told him that my dark hair, nose piercing, and jewelry are all things I like about the way I look, and he may want to find someone who meets his needs looks-wise, because this has been a conversation multiple times.”

Her boyfriend said he wouldn’t be dating her if he hated her appearance, but he would like her to consider his opinions on how she she come across.

She responded that if all he wants to do is make her look different, then she’s not sure what to say, because she loves how she looks.

Her boyfriend is currently angry with her, and she’s left feeling like she’s definitely not his boyfriend’s type. It also hasn’t helped that all of her boyfriend’s friends and family members have said that they’re surprised he’s with her, since blonde, white girls are what he’s into, and she doesn’t fit that mold.

She’s left feeling upset and weird about this, while wondering if she’s wrong to refuse to dye her hair and take out her nose ring since her boyfriend wants that.

Her boyfriend knew what she looked like when he decided to date her, and two years in, he’s lobbying for a blonde, piercing-free girlfriend and getting frustrated that she won’t cooperate? What on earth! Why is she still dating him?

Why is he even dating her if she’s not his type? It sounds like her boyfriend is just out to control or manipulate her, like it’s some kind of game to him.

She needs to find some self-respect, along with a new man.
