I think we all should aspire to date someone who makes us a priority; otherwise, we should just stay single. What would you do if you were suffering from a medical emergency, and your partner was too busy photographing their dog like they deserve to be on the cover of Vogue instead of helping you?

This woman returned home from a work trip, and then two days later, she felt suddenly sick. She was staying with her boyfriend, whose an avid animal lover with a collection of different pets.

She puts up with her boyfriend’s pets, but it took her a bit to get used to them all. She never realized how completely obsessed her boyfriend is with his animals until he picked his dog over her.

On the morning that she fell ill, she got up with a stomachache and rushed to use the bathroom. Her boyfriend was present as she quickly declined, and he appeared to be worried about her.

She called a nurse and placed the woman on speakerphone to get her advice on whether or not she should head over to the nearest Emergency Room, and her boyfriend overheard the whole exchange.

“After the call, he said he was going to make pasta. While he was gone, my condition worsened to the point where I could not stand upright and felt as though I was going to faint,” she explained.

“I texted him to say I would like to go to the ER. No response. 10 minutes pass; I was curled up on the floor and gave him a call. No answer. I requested an Uber and texted him that I would be getting a ride. Still no response.”

“I mustered enough strength to wander through the apartment calling out to him…with no response. His dog was gone, too. I got the notification that my Uber was downstairs, and began to shuffle around in search of my wallet and shoes.”

She was desperate to see a doctor, as she was losing her coherence. She was so out of it that she put on flip-flops, even though it was snowing that day.

As she was walking out the front door, she caught sight of her boyfriend standing on his balcony, snapping photos of his dog in the snow.

Her boyfriend saw her shadow and rushed inside, distressed that she was leaving his place. Anyway, she did have to take that Uber alone to the hospital, as her boyfriend was ultimately no help. So he couldn’t have been that worried about her, could he?

“I even went to a non-emergency location because I wasn’t thinking straight. I spent around 8 hours being treated, so it was serious enough,” she added.

“He catered to me once he got to the hospital, but I can’t ‘unsee’ what happened. This is the same person who, in the past, drove 2 hours round trip to the vet after 2 days of a severe snowstorm… for his pet rat.”

“He has since apologized, but also followed it up with the fact that he ‘thought I would’ve told him I was leaving’ and that he ‘didn’t know.’ I’m beyond angry and betrayed by this. Thoughts?”

Well, her boyfriend knew she was severely sick and was most likely going to go to the hospital for treatment, yet chose to play with his dog in the snow instead of prioritizing her health. So, no, I don’t think she’s overreacting for being so mad at him.

Her boyfriend isn’t dependable in catastrophic situations, and how is that a man she can trust to do the right thing or save her in her time of need?

Since she can’t, I think she needs to dump him. I get that he loves his pets; I do, too, but to choose to do something fun with one instead of being there for your sick partner isn’t acceptable.
