TikToker Kajsa (@kajsa.spooky.stor) shares scary stories sent in by followers, and today, she has a story from someone named Melissa.
When Melissa was 13 years old, she struggled with her mental health and was admitted to a psych hospital. She lived in South Africa, but the hospital she went to was not near where she lived at all.
The moment she set foot into the building, a feeling of pure dread overcame her. Her hands started shaking, and she felt very jittery. Her au pair, who was her guardian, signed her in. She met the adolescent group, and she was the youngest one there.
At 9 p.m., it was time for them to take their medications and settle down for the night. All the girls slept in a room with six beds, and the boys slept in another.
Melissa’s bed was in the corner of the room. There were no windows. The only way out of the room was through a locked glass door with a gray blur film.
She woke up in the middle of the night for some reason. She looked around the room in the dark, trying to get her bearings. When her eyes adjusted to the dark, she saw a face poking out from a closet door behind one of the other girls’ beds.
“From that distance, she could only make out its eyes, and she said that this was enough to haunt her,” said Kajsa. “She said it was looking directly into her eyes and that she truly cannot even describe the evil that was coming from this thing.”
“Its eyes were downturned, but wide open…She was 100% sure that this thing was not human. The pupils were just too vivid.”
They were locked in a staring contest for what felt like forever. Finally, Melissa broke away and slammed her head back down on her pillow. She did not dare to move for the rest of the night.

When her parents came to visit, they brought her a clock. She started noticing that she kept waking up around 4 a.m. every night and could never go back to sleep.
One day, Melissa needed to use the bathroom, so she asked the nurse on duty to take her. They usually weren’t allowed to go to the bathroom without supervision. But this time, the nurse let her go by herself since the bathroom was right down the corridor.
As Melissa walked down the hall to the bathroom, she noticed that it was eerily silent. Then, she suddenly felt like she was in danger.
She started speed walking, but as she passed the window in the hallway, she saw something out of the corner of her eye. She turned slowly and was met with a horrible, evil face. It had the same eyes, but this time, it also showed its rotten teeth.
She rushed to the bathroom and pretended that she hadn’t seen it. She realized that she was on the second story, so it was unclear how that creature was able to reach up so high.
“At night, she is so scared that she sleeps with another girl in her bed,” said Kajsa. “She’s breaking the no-contact rule because she is so terrified. She did not care.”
The following week, nothing happened, so Melissa thought the creature had gone away. But she still had her guard up. She was supposed to be discharged soon, which was a relief.
One night, she was chatting with the other girls in her room before they all went to bed. Again, she woke up at 4 a.m., feeling unsafe.
Something leaned over the edge of her bed and breathed down her neck. She sat bolt upright and looked behind her, but nothing was there.
The next night was the worst night. She woke up at 1 a.m., needing to use the bathroom. After finishing her business, she decided to sit on the floor for a little while. The motion sensor lights shut off, which was not unusual.
Before she could make a move, she heard a voice whispering her name. It sounded exactly like one of the girls there, so Melissa thought she was just trying to play a prank. But when she walked back into the room, she realized that the girl was sound asleep in her bed.
Melissa got into bed and faced the wall. She sensed something crouching at the foot of her bed. It grabbed her ankle and tried to pull her off the bed.
At that point, she started screaming at the top of her lungs. It let go of her immediately. Everyone woke up and tried to calm her down.
Two hours later, she woke up to a clicking sound coming from the closet. The next morning, she packed up her stuff and left. Since her time at the psych hospital, she still wakes up at 4 a.m.
