Dates can very well feel like interviews gone south when the person sitting across the dinner table from you begins asking uncomfortable or insensitive questions.

Do you think it’s acceptable to point-blank ask someone what their salary is on a first date, or is that a hallmark sign of a gold digger?

This 25-year-old man recently met a 29-year-old woman on a dating app, and yesterday, he went out with her for the first time. It’s been a couple of months since he’s gone out on a date with a girl, and he was looking forward to getting back in the swing of things.

He wasn’t entirely sure this girl was the right one for him, but he walked into their date, refraining from judgment while resolving to be open-minded about her.

After all, you never know what can happen, and he thought he might be pleasantly surprised. But sadly, their date quickly turned into an interview, and this girl grilled him. Hard.

“Throughout the whole date, which was over drinks and dinner, she asked specifics about my job, such as what I do, how much I make, etc.,” he explained.

“She looked disappointed when I told her I was entry-level and had only been working for a year, which I don’t get why she’s shocked that’s pretty normal for 24-25-year-old dudes in Canada, since we mostly graduate at 23 here, it hasn’t even officially been 2 years since my convocation yet.”

His date asked him about hypothetical situations, such as how he would react if his future child had particular beliefs or viewpoints.

She then wanted to know when he was thinking of having children, which really isn’t a thought that has crossed his mind yet, given his age.

Frankly, none of his friends are even considering children, since it’s pretty premature for them to be planning a family, given that they all recently graduated from college.

“My final straw was when she asked exactly how much I make….At that moment, I started laughing in disgust and told her I think it was time to end the date, and got up,” he continued.

“When she asked and tried getting me to stay, I told her she reminded me of my HR department and told her it was the worst first date I’ve been on in 5 years (unironically was).”

“She was shocked, and I took that opportunity to simply pay my tab and leave without saying anything more. Looking back, I feel a little bad. She looked really sad when I told her that, and I wonder if I went a little too hard.”

Some questions are not first-date-worthy, such as anything involving someone’s salary. Honestly, I don’t even condone bringing that up on a second or third date, because it’s rude and materialistic.

I guess he found out why this girl is single, and she unquestionably comes across as being more interested in a man’s money than in him.

Yikes, she’s going to keep driving men away with an attitude like that, but good for him for walking out and not accepting that kind of treatment.
