For TikToker Spencer (@spencer.glass), the day that High School Musical premiered on Disney Channel became unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. He was the only one home, watching the premiere intently, when an attempted robbery occurred.
Two hours before the premiere aired, he was at a family friend’s house with his parents. His parents promised that they would drive him home in time to watch High School Musical.
“They knew they had a theater son; they knew they had a closeted gay son,” said Spencer. “They knew they had a son who asked to go to basketball camp. Like, they knew that was my night.”
However, his parents forgot about the High School Musical premiere, so nobody drove him home. They told him to walk home instead.
While he was walking and trying to make it home in time, he got food poisoning. Then, he started sprinting while in a nauseated state, determined not to miss it.
Once he reached his house, he ran into the bathroom and finished up just in time. He darted to the television, turned it on, and watched the movie. He was having the time of his life. But then, something happened during the song Get’cha Head in the Game.
As the basketball team was dribbling their balls onscreen, Spencer noticed something that didn’t belong in the reflection of the screen.
When he whipped around, he saw a six-foot-tall man outside the glass door to the backyard. Spencer jumped up, ran to the kitchen, and grabbed a butcher knife for protection.
“Mind you, this is all happening during Get’cha Head in the Game,” he recalled. “And I’m frantically running around with a knife. The man darts from the back door, and I call my parents.”

“I’m hysterically crying. Get’cha Head in the Game is still playing at 97 volume in the background. I tell my parents that someone is trying to rob the house. They’re like, you’re just being dramatic because you’re watching a musical, screaming on the phone.”
To this day, his parents still don’t believe that someone attempted to rob the house that day. Many TikTok users chimed in with their thoughts in the comments section.
“The man was just trying to watch the High School Musical premiere and was embarrassed he got caught,” joked one user.
“The day it premiered, our Comcast went out. I called them and screamed at them because they were going to make me miss it! It came back on, and I sat down like, yeah, I did that,” commented another.
“My parents told my sister and [me] that they were getting divorced, right before the premiere,” stated a third.
“I got food poisoning the same night I went to see a live onstage production of High School Musical, and I feel like this is not a coincidence,” added someone else.
