It’s reasonable to assume that anything you share on the internet could not only live there forever but also be found by people you might not want to see it.

So, if you found out that your employee was trash talking you on social media, would you be ready to fire them for doing that to you?

This 28-year-old woman has a job working at a tech company. A couple of years ago, she met a 19-year-old girl through another job that she had.

She thought this girl was talented, and when she had the opportunity, she gave her a spot on her team. This girl accepted the offer and came to work for her.

“She’s been doing a solid job so far. No complaints about her work. The issue is that IT flagged some searches she made on her work computer. I honestly didn’t want to know, because yeah, privacy, but my company has strict policies about this stuff,” she explained.

“The searches were kind of ridiculous, like ‘my boss is unbearable.’ Then I found out she has a public Twitter account where she talks a lot of [trash] about the company and about me specifically.”

“Now HR is asking me to make a serious decision. On one hand, she should’ve known better. You can’t use company equipment and public social media to bash your boss and employer. That’s just dumb. On the other hand, I feel bad because she seems to really need the money, and she’s actually good at her job.”

She is this girl’s boss, meaning she’s directly responsible for her. This girl wrote that she is ‘tacky,’ and ‘needs to touch up her salon dye job.’

Mainly, this girl made posts about her looks, which is humiliating for her to even say out loud. She also posted complaints about her salary and other pretty normal company-related things.

She’s left wondering if she’s a jerk for wanting to fire this girl over what she shared openly on the internet.

Well, a job is a privilege, not a right, and this girl is foolish to think that she’s immune to being fired for bashing her boss and company for everyone to see. Also, a horrible idea to do that in a public forum.

She clearly can’t need the money that badly if she thought this was acceptable. She has no choice but to fire this girl after seeing with her own eyes what she’s doing on social media.

Actions have consequences, and I’m sure this girl is replaceable. Hopefully, this girl learns a valuable lesson and conducts herself better in the next job she manages to find.
