Most people would agree that finding out your fiancé has been cheating is a pretty clear sign to call off the wedding. But when you’re deeply invested in a relationship, let’s say six or seven years in, walking away isn’t as simple as it sounds.

While TikToker @happiestjulez and her partner were engaged, he cheated on her, and she still married him. After they eventually got divorced, she now knows her worth and would not make the same mistake again.

According to her, the first warning signs appeared when they were planning their wedding. During the wedding planning, he was completely uninterested. She could tell something was off, but she just didn’t know what it was.

One day, she was at his house and had to use the bathroom. Afterward, he immediately took the garbage out. She thought it was odd because no one ever changed the garbage that quickly, especially not him.

In hindsight, it seemed like he may have been trying to hide evidence that another woman had been in the house.

Furthermore, he was often unavailable whenever she called. For example, she once got into a minor car accident and tried to call him for support, but he didn’t pick up the phone.

Over time, each individual incident added up. When put together, they painted a picture that became increasingly difficult to ignore. The truth finally came out after an argument.

One night, she was at his house when they started arguing over who should go pick up a movie. She wanted to go together, but he kept insisting that only one of them go. Finally, he just stormed out of the house and left.

Sometime later, he returned to the house and asked her to give back her ring before admitting that he had another girlfriend. They stayed up talking all night long. The next morning, they went to his mom’s house and told her about what was going on.

Of course, his mom was on his side and made excuses for him. They proceeded to schedule an appointment for couples’ counseling and talked to a therapist. Looking back, she struggles to understand why she stayed with him.

“Somehow, I was still convinced that I should still marry this man and that this man actually cared about me,” said @happiestjulez. “So, I decided to keep it to the one friend I had told and carry on with having the wedding.”

Today, she is proud of herself for leaving. She is sharing her story in the hopes that other women will recognize the red flags sooner than she did and actually do something about it.

Sometimes, self-worth means walking away, even when it’s painful. A canceled wedding is much easier to recover from than years spent in an unhealthy marriage.
