4-Month-Old Little Girl Diagnosed With A Rare Condition And Now She Needs A Lung Transplant

Reya Rose Prabhala Wolfe is an adorable 4-month-old little girl who is soon moving to Houston, Texas to undergo surgery that will hopefully save her life.

Not long after Reya entered the world, she was diagnosed with a very rare genetic condition known as chILD or Childhood Interstitial Lung Disease.

“Children’s Interstitial and Diffuse Lung Disease (chILD) is not a single disease,” the Children’s Interstitial Lung Disease Foundation explains on their website.

“Instead, it is a group of rare lung diseases found in infants, children, and adolescents. There are different types of chILD that vary in their severity and in their long-term outcomes.”

“In simplest terms, all types of chILD decrease a child’s ability to supply oxygen to their body.”

It is not possible for Reya to breathe on her own due to her rare disease, and she has to rely on machines to breathe for her.

Reya’s team of doctors at the Children’s National in Washington D.C. have done everything they can to try to help her.

Unfortunately, nothing is helping Reya’s condition improve significantly, and she only has one option left.

Reya’s only hope is moving from Virginia to Houston, Texas, to receive a lung transplant at just 4-months-old.

“The best place to receive a lung transplant for someone my age (4 months!) is in…wait for it….Houston, Texas,” a GoFundMe page created for Reya and written from her perspective says.

“I know, I’ll be a southern belle in no time. They perform 3-4 infant lung transplants per year and I am hoping to be one of them.”

Reya’s parents, Nithya and Tim, are going to be uprooting their lives to make the move with her.

While Time is able to work from home and keep his job in a new state, Reya’s mom Nithya works as a pediatric emergency room nurse and now has to quit her job.

“The last thing I want my parents worrying about while we’re all going through this is their financial security,” Reya’s GoFundMe page reads.

“People always say raising a child takes a village and that has never been more true than right now. My parents might be physically far away from our extended families and friends back home but that doesn’t mean they are unsupported.”

Any money raised will go towards helping cover the costs of Reya’s surgery and medications, as well as towards food, transportation, and a new house for her and her family.
