We’ve all had those painfully awkward moments where we mistake someone for someone else. Maybe you’ve waved enthusiastically at a stranger who was actually waving at a friend standing behind you or accidentally called your teacher “Mom.”
Those kinds of mixups usually result in a beet-red blush, a quick apology, and embarrassed laughter.
One woman experienced a case of mistaken identity that took awkwardness to a whole new level. A few weeks ago, TikToker Raven (@pilatesbodyraven) was dressed up at a restaurant in Cabo when someone came up behind her, grabbed her by the waist, and passionately kissed her neck.
She laughed a little, thinking that it was her friend who was just behind her. But when she turned around, she came face-to-face with a random man.
They made eye contact, and both of them immediately started to panic. He rushed to explain that he thought Raven was his girlfriend because they were both wearing the same dress.
From behind, with similar outfits, he had confidently walked up to the wrong woman without thinking twice. For a split second, the encounter almost had the makings of a romance novel.
It could have been a meet-cute in a real-life rom-com: a handsome stranger walks up from behind, wraps his arms around the heroine, and sparks an unforgettable first meeting. But of course, this wasn’t the case.
While the misunderstanding was already mortifying enough, the situation somehow became even funnier. Raven’s friend wanted to discreetly record the girlfriend.
Unfortunately, she forgot one very important detail. The camera flash on her phone was on. The bright flash announced itself to everyone nearby, making it obvious as to what she was doing. So much for being discreet.
Thankfully, everyone involved recognized the whole situation as an honest mistake. Since then, Raven hasn’t been able to get this crazy experience out of her mind.
In the comments section, TikTok users couldn’t get enough of the awkward encounter and even shared equally embarrassing memories of their own.
“Not the same, but when I was like eight, I was at the park and ran up to this guy at the ice cream truck ordering something with his back turned. Because he had the same jacket on as my dad, I hugged him, and then he turned around, and it wasn’t my dad, and I screamed and ran away, and then I saw my dad (with ice cream for me already),” commented one user.
“I was hoping the plot twist was that was his pickup line,” stated another.
“I’m appalled and aroused at the same time. I would have asked what are we,” joked a third.
It’s safe to say that Raven won’t forget about this mixup in Cabo anytime soon. She’s currently still holding out for a real romantic moment like that to happen to her.
