This Rescue Dog Was Saved From The Streets Of Korea And After Being Diagnosed With A Fatal Heart Disease Her Parents Are Trying To Raise Money For Her To Get A Pacemaker
New York, New York. Two years ago, Pocky was living on the streets of Korea, until a local rescue stepped in to save her.
From there, it seemed she would be adopted, but multiple times those plans fell through for Pocky until she met a couple by the name of Elisa and Greg.
Elisa and Greg live in Flushing, Queens, and they decided to welcome Pocky into their home with open arms.
Pocky was successfully adopted by Elisa and Greg, and Pocky has been living in Flushing for the past two years now.
“They rescued me from the streets of Korea 2 years ago and have given me a life full of cuddles, care, and endless love,” Pocky wrote on her GoFundMe page.
“They have always made my health a top priority so I can live a long, happy life, and share my puppy love with every human I meet!”
Sadly, Pocky recently began experiencing some worrying symptoms. She began having seizures and started to act, well, not like herself at all.
Elisa and Greg made multiple trips to the veterinarian with Pocky, and she was ultimately diagnosed with a fatal and extremely rare heart disease known as Sick Sinus Syndrome.

Sick Sinus Syndrome is impacting the rhythm and rare of Pocky’s heart, and it could cost her her life if left untreated (which is not something Elisa and Greg will let happen).
“Sometimes my heart stops beating for as long as 8 seconds, and other times, it’s beating 200bpm! The cause is unknown, and the effects are terrifying, and but thankfully there is a solution,” Pocky said.
“Elisa and Greg would do anything to fix my broken heart, and in 1 week I will be undergoing a very serious surgery to receive a Pacemaker, so I can continue to bring joy to those around me for many more years!!”
Although Elisa and Greg did get insurance for Pocky, her insurance company is not covering the costs of her pacemaker surgery, which has been quoted at around $10,000.
Paige Rothaus, a friend of Elisa, Greg, and Pocky, decided to create a GoFundMe page to help raise enough money to cover Pocky’s pacemaker surgery, and the donations started pouring in.
Elisa and Greg feel overwhelmed by the community’s support for Pocky, and they shared an update a few days ago to the GoFundMe page.

“As Pocky goes into her surgery next Tuesday, we will keep you updated on her progress,” Elisa and Greg said.
“She may look a little different the next time you see her, as the pacemaker will sit on the right side of her neck, but she will always be the same hungry dog you have come to know and love. We are hopeful that she will be back to work as New York’s finest party mascot very soon.”
“Words cannot adequately express the amount of love and support we are feeling, and we promise to pay it forward in some way.”
Elisa and Greg mentioned that after Pocky’s surgery is covered if they have any money left over they will make sure to donate it to KoreanK9rescue, which is a non-profit that saves dogs from the meat trade in Korea then finds them loving homes in New York City.
