This Dog Was On The Verge Of Dying When She Was Found Living Under An Abandoned House And It Took 10 Days To Rescue Her

Canton, Mississippi. Ren is a beautiful, sweet Shephard that was rescued off the streets after a group of good samaritans in Canton, Mississippi learned that Ren was living beneath an abandoned house.

A woman by the name of Helen Herringdine Lynn lives down the street from the building Ren was found living under, and she helped to save Ren’s life.

Helen explained that it took 10 days to rescue Ren and that when she was found, she looked like she was sadly on the verge of dying.

Ren was super skinny, horribly injured, and very dehydrated. She was petrified of people. She couldn’t move very well as she lay there under the building before her rescue.

Helen at the other rescuers spent days leaving water and food outside for Ren, and they noticed that eventually, Ren was eating and drinking what they had put out for her.

“She was too scared to come out from under the building even though she had to crawl to move,” Helen wrote on a GoFundMe page.

“Her injuries made this very straining and you could see she was exhausted. With many Wendy’s hamburgers, lots of gentle patience, we were able to gain her trust over the days.”

“On the tenth day, after many hours, we finally helped her into the backseat and straight to the emergency vet.”

When Helen and the other rescuers were able to coax Ren out from under the building and get her to the vet, they were saddened to hear about her numerous injuries.

Ren had been attacked by several dogs out on the street, and so she had many wounds and scars from those attacks.

She also was suffering from an enlarged heart, and she had clearly been struck by a car at some point in her life so her hind end wasn’t normal.

Additionally, the vet told Helen that someone had shot Ren more than once with a shotgun, though those pellets are not in any places that require surgery to remove them.

It’s now been three weeks since Ren was rescued, and she has been living with Helen while getting back to a healthy place.

“She is an absolute doll and just wants love,” Helen said. “She loves to roll in fresh grass and get belly scratches.”

“She is now house and crate trained. She walks well on a leash but prefers to be inside in her warm bed. She is quite calm for a Shepherd, and likes a quiet life.”

Helen mentioned that all of the no-kill shelters near her are overcrowded, and so she stepped up to help Ren herself.

Ren will soon be looking for a new home, and she would be best suited for a family that has no other big dogs, or a family that only has small dogs since she’s scared of other larger dogs from being attacked by them while out on the street.

“Ren is very scared of gunshots for obvious reasons,” Helen continued. “She is learning that new people are kind. After her abuse and just three weeks, I find this amazing.”

“I think she would be such a loyal companion for someone who wants a loving pet. She does best with someone who won’t leave her for long hours alone/kenneled.”

“She’s great in the house and doesn’t mess with anything! She appears to be full-blooded German Shepherd but we can’t be sure. We will be very selective to find the right forever home for Ren.”

If you would like to help Helen with Ren’s medical bills, you can do there here.

If Helen raises more money than needed to care for Ren, she’s planning on putting the donations to good use and giving the money to a local no-kill shelter.
