Her Former Sister-In-Law Had No Clue That Her Ex-Husband Divorced Her Due To Her Weight Gain, So She Told Her The Truth

Close to a decade ago, a 37-year-old woman got divorced from her 38-year-old husband. She and her husband tied the knot when they were only 19-years-old, and they dated for about 3 years before jumping into marriage so young.
So, when she hit the middle of her 20s, she and her husband split up, and it was because she packed on a ton of weight.
During that point in her life, she was extremely stressed out at her job and her mental health just wasn’t in the best place.
All of this led to her having an even more unhealthy relationship with food than she already did.
“When I married my husband, I weighed about 120lbs, but right before we divorced I weighed 240,” she explained.
“My husband sat me down after the first forty or so and told me he was concerned about my health and said that if I kept gaining weight, he wouldn’t be attracted to me anymore. Hearing this devastated me but I decided to really try to lose weight.”
“It didn’t work, though. If anything, trying to diet just made it worse, as I started feeling guilty eating at all which led to more binging.”
She had another discussion with her husband about her weight gain, and they came to the conclusion mutually that it was time to part ways.
They didn’t have children together, so it was relatively simple for them to proceed with a divorce. Although many people might be angry or upset to have their marriage end over their weight gain, she’s not.

She isn’t upset with her now ex-husband, and she doesn’t hate him at all. She actually understood his position, and never held it against him.
She was able to move on, meet a new man, get married, and have 2 children. She currently weighs 220 in case you are curious, so she’s pretty close to the weight that she was when she got divorced.
Not that long ago, she went to the mall and was surprised to see her former sister-in-law, who she hasn’t run into in years.
She always did like her former sister-in-law, and she was happy to see her that day in the mall.
While she was talking to her former sister-in-law, she was shocked to hear her former sister-in-law mention that she couldn’t believe the marriage to her ex ended “the way it did.”
Curious, she pressed her former sister-in-law on that, and apparently, her ex informed his entire family that she had stepped out on him and that’s why their marriage ended.
Clearly, that was one enormous lie; their marriage came to an end over the weight that she had gained.
It did hurt her to hear that her ex went out of his way to lie and paint her in a bad light. She decided to tell her former sister-in-law the truth about why she and her ex ended their marriage, and her former sister-in-law couldn’t believe the real reason.
Her former sister-in-law insisted that she had no clue, but she let her know that it was water under the bridge.
“I went home and didn’t think much of it,” she said. “To my shock, my ex-husband called upset. He asked why I told his sister that.”
“I guess the truth has gone around most of his family and is even causing problems in his current marriage. I told him I was sorry this was happening but that what I said was the truth.”
She was left feeling terrible. She doesn’t keep in contact with her ex or his loved ones, and she acknowledges that if she hadn’t set her former sister-in-law straight, it wouldn’t have impacted her life at all.
She doesn’t really care about what people think of her, but she just thought everyone would like to know the truth over a lie.
“I didn’t realize that they would react so strongly to the truth, though,” she concluded.
Do you think it was ok for her to let her former sister-in-law know the real reason behind her divorce, or should she have said nothing?
