A 17-year-old girl had her prom a few weeks ago, and it really was something that was giving her anxiety in the days leading up to it.

One week prior to prom, one of her classmates asked if she could give him a ride to their prom since he didn’t have anyone else to get him there.

It really wasn’t an issue taking him, but he can be a bit obnoxious and she was extremely stressed out about having to drive down a high traffic that she had not driven on before in order to pick him up.

She told this guy that she needed to ask her mom and dad before saying yes, but she would let him know.

After he already asked her for a ride, he then insisted that his mom would like to call her mom to chat about it, and she couldn’t help but be irritated by that.

“Like, what more does she need to explain?” she wondered. “I just said I’ll take him and I gave him my mom’s number.”

“Two days before prom. I asked him if he was sure he didn’t have anyone else who could take him. I told him how nervous I was and how stressed I was getting and asked if he could double-check.”

When he let her know that he couldn’t get another ride, she said that she would get him to prom after all.

She also pointed out to him that she already organized after-prom plans with her friends, and he said that was fine since he would be able to get a ride home that evening.

Adding to her anxiety surrounding giving him a ride to prom was the fact that she had gotten into a minor car accident recently and one of her friends was with her when she was driving.

That incident had left her feeling awful, and she still holds a lot of anxiety around driving by herself, let alone with someone else in the car.

With one day left before prom, she was shocked when one of her friends told her that this guy was complaining about her to one of the teachers they share.

“She told me he was saying things like “It’s ridiculous that she can’t take me home,” she explained.

“It’s annoying how last minute she’s saying she can’t take me even though she already agreed to it. When I asked for a ride to prom it’s insinuating that I’m going to need a ride back home.”

“These comments made me mad. They were disrespectful and I was hurt. I was still going to give him a ride, I just wanted to make sure if there was anyone better to ask. But knowing that he was complaining about me behind my back was really hurtful.”

She also was upset that he was saying bad things about her to this teacher that also was her teacher too.

She immediately filled her mom in on this when she got home from school, and her mom had no problem calling this guy’s mom to say he needed to get a ride from someone else.

She did mention to all of her friends that she would not be giving this guy a ride to prom anymore, and one of her friends was furious with her.

This friend insisted that it was rude of her to no longer give him a ride and that he would have to spend a fortune on a rideshare app driver to get him there.

In the end, this guy did find a ride to prom, but the entire evening, she didn’t say a word to him. Although prom was weeks ago, some of her classmates still believe she’s a jerk for backing out on giving him a ride a day before prom.

Do you think that was mean of her, or did she have every right to back out?
