This New Jersey Shelter Is Overflowing With Large Dogs Just Waiting To Be Adopted, And Here Are A Few That Are Available

AHS Newark is located in Newark, New Jersey, and they are a non-profit humane society that offers a variety of services to local communities.

AHS Newark sadly is overflowing with large dogs just waiting to be adopted right now, and in a recent Facebook post from a few days ago, they mentioned that summer is the craziest time of year for them.

“Summer is the busiest time of year for our shelter,” AHS Newark wrote in their post. “Families are taking vacation so there are less adopters and fosters, we get animal surrenders and strays daily and the kittens are nonstop!”

“Right now our shelter is full to capacity with large dogs- we want to make it clear that no animals are in danger due to lack of space.”

“But at this time we are looking for assistance wherever we can find it- adopters, fosters, and most importantly rescues! There are beautiful dogs just like Lakota here waiting to find their forever home! Please come to the shelter to meet them!”

Let’s meet a few of their adoptable dogs, starting with Lakota.

Lakota is a 3-year-old boy, and it’s anyone’s guess as to what breed he really is. AHS Newark thinks he’s part Collie, and he definitely turns heads with his tri-color coat.

Lakota would do best with a family that has older, teen-aged children and another dog that he can be friends with.

“Lakota is a great boy, he walks pretty well on the leash and is friendly,” AHS Newark says about him.

“He’s a calm and laid-back boy with a happy personality. Occasionally he can be shy, especially towards strangers but warms up pretty quickly.”

Brutus is a 6-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix, and he looking for a family that does not have any children. He sadly was returned by a family that AHS Newark thought was going to keep him forever.

Brutus is excellent for walking on a leash, he loves scratches, and he’s just one happy guy.

“He’s super smart too,” AHS Newark says about Brutus. “Brutus is pretty familiar with most basic commands.”

“He may look mighty but he’s super gentle, especially when taking treats. This mushball is an adorable boy who needs to find his forever home.”

Brutus has no problem sharing his bones, his toys, and even his food.

Clifford is a 5-year-old Pit Bull mix, and he would excel in a home that only has adults present. AHS Newark has not yet discovered if Clifford does well with other dogs.

Although Clifford is 5, he acts much younger, and he’s quite a sweetheart. He is intelligent and enjoys getting treats.

“Clifford’s got a big heart, the better to love you with,” AHS Newark says about Clifford. “He’s definitely a little aloof at first before he gets comfortable with new faces.”

Clifford doesn’t enjoy sharing his food or bones, so he needs to be part of a family that understands that.

AHS Newark is open every single day of the week from 12 in the afternoon to 5 in the evening and they encourage you to come down to meet the animals that they have for adoption.

You can also take a look at all of their adoptable animals on their website.
