Her Friend Lied To Her About Having Severe Food Allergies For Years, And Now She Feels Totally Betrayed
This twenty-six-year-old woman has known her best friend since elementary school. And now, after her friend dated a guy for a while, they are getting married in the coming months.
Her friend also asked her to help with the wedding preparations. But, while planning everything– including the food– she realized there was a major red flag.
“For background, I am Indian. And at my house, we would always have Indian food. Whenever friends came over, I would ask if they would like to try some of the food, but I never forced it,” she recalled.
And if her friends did not want any, she would simply order them something else or cook them a simpler meal.
However, when her best friend would go to her house, the friend would not just refuse to try the Indian dishes.
Instead, after she rattled off the ingredients in every dish, her friend would claim to be allergic to something in every single one.
And even though she had never even heard of people being allergic to some of the ingredients, she respected her friend’s dietary restrictions.
One time, her friend even began coughing violently and claiming that her throat was closing up after her mother heated up dinner for herself.
“I have never seen my mom move that fast to grab Benadryl and toss her food out the door. We wouldn’t even microwave food that had her allergens in it after that. I was so freaked out,” she explained.

Plus, even though that was years ago when they were children, she has always kept her friend’s allergens in mind while eating together.
She would even go out of her way and call ahead to restaurants they planned on visiting to make sure they had foods her friend could eat.
And even more wildly, when she got married, she served a Western-style dinner instead of a traditional Indian one.
Why, you may ask? Well, because her friend was the maid of honor and having her friend be there was more important than what food she ate on her wedding day. And she put up with all the bashing from her family members over it.
So now that her friend is getting married, she noticed that the wedding menu includes a ton of foods that the friend is allergic to.
At first, she considered that maybe her friend was going to ask for a substitute meal.
But then, while she was at her friend’s house and speaking with her mother, she mentioned that she would be bringing an EpiPen just in case. And shockingly, the mother asked who the EpiPen was for and told her that her friend was actually not allergic to anything.
She was understandably very embarrassed after that and laughed it off in the moment. Later, when she saw her friend, though, it all went downhill.
“I asked her about it, and she just laughed and said it was just her way of avoiding Indian food. I was shocked, snapped at her, and yelled quite a bit,” she said.
And since then, she has just felt incredibly hurt.
She has no idea why her friend would keep the lie going on for so long and, because of that, has not responded to any of the friend’s texts or calls for days now.
However, after she spoke to her own mom about it, her mom warned her that she might risk losing her friendship and ruining her friend’s wedding if she did not let the lie go.
So now, she has been left wondering if yelling at her friend over the lie– which was about more than just food– was the wrong thing to do.
If your friend lied to you for years, and you constantly went out of your way to accommodate for that lie, would you be furious, too? How would you handle this situation?
