She Called Out Her Mom In Front Of Everyone Because She Would Not Stop Making “Jokes” About A Hurtful Bullying Incident That Happened 20 Years Ago
At thirty years old, this woman is still battling her mother’s grudge for “ruining” her birthday celebration two decades ago. And it all began when she was ten years old.
At the time, she had just had a bad falling out with her childhood best friend– which was already emotionally tough enough.
Then, the friend began bullying her incessantly to the point where she dreaded going to school every day.
She also even began to steer clear of certain parts of the neighborhood in order to avoid running into her ex-friend.
“But, one day, the bullying at school got so bad that a teacher noticed and decided she needed to call home to both of our parents. This day just so happened to be my mom’s birthday,” she recalled.
So, upon receiving the call, her mother was genuinely infuriated that she had to “put a damper” on the rest of her big day.
The mother ended up going into the principal’s office for a meeting with the bully’s parents and a few teachers. And, the whole ordeal only lasted about an hour– tops.
Moreover, after leaving the school, the mother was still able to arrive at her birthday party on time. Despite that, though, her mother claimed the school meeting put her in a bad mood for the rest of the afternoon and completely ruined her birthday.
“As a kid, I was absolutely devastated that I was dealing with this at school. And then, I came home, and my mom was against me for it, too,” she explained.

“I fully believed the idea that it was MY fault her birthday was ruined and that I had done something wrong.”
Now, twenty years have passed since that dreaded day, and her mother has come around to view the situation as “funny” instead of “frustrating.”
But, this is still a massive problem since the mom constantly brings up the bullying and regards it as a funny story– particularly at dinners or birthday parties.
And for her, the constant reminder of her childhood pain is insufferable. Every time her mom launches into the “funny story” again, she is just brought back to the ridicule she endured at the hands of her former best friend.
Plus, you would think that after all of these years, her mother would get the hint by now. After all, she has never laughed during the tale, and all of her other family members just awkwardly chuckle after it is told.
Still, the mother never “got it” and made the very same joke this year before her big birthday dinner.
The mother had coordinated a large group chat with all of her family members and friends to plan out the big day. And inside the chat, she texted another snide remark about the decades-old bullying incident.
“Hopefully, I won’t get a call from your boss saying someone is being mean to you at work before the party,” the mother apparently texted as a “joke.”
After seeing that message pop up on her screen, though, she could not deal with it anymore. So, she finally told her mother off in front of everyone.
“Can you please let it go and stop bringing this up constantly? I don’t know why you think this is a funny memory for anyone besides yourself. And, to be honest, I can’t imagine why it’s a funny memory for you, either,” she responded.
Immediately following the response, the group chat fell radio silent. Then, she got a furious call from her mother, who claimed she embarrassed her in front of everyone and could no longer show her face to her friends.
And even though she has been pushed so hard by her mother over the years, she is now feeling guilty about the outburst.
Don’t get me wrong– she does not regret finally confronting her mom whatsoever.
But, she instead is worried that calling her mother out in front of everyone instead of in private was a really inappropriate thing to do.
Do you think her mother deserved a taste of her own medicine after publicly mocking her about the same incident for twenty years? If you were in her shoes, how would you handle this situation?
