What Eric Lloyd, Who Played Charlie Calvin In The Beloved Film “The Santa Clause,” Is Up To Now: Spoiler Alert, He Has Moved Behind The Camera

Plenty of people recognize Eric Lloyd nowadays, but most are often unsure of where they remember him from.

This makes sense, of course, since he has long outgrown the signature bowl cut his adorable character, Charlie Calvin, rocked in the Christmas classic The Santa Clause.

“People will say, ‘Did I go to high school with you, or something?’ and I’ll say, ‘I don’t know, maybe!” Eric said in an interview with ABC.

“It’s one of those films that when anyone that does recognize me, it’s because they really enjoyed the film. it’s those people that watch it every year and are true fans of it.”

Eric got his start in the entertainment industry after he began acting at just one-year-old. His first job? Appearing in an IBM computer commercial.

Then, by age eight, Eric landed a starring role alongside acclaimed comedian Tim Allen. Their first holiday film came out in 1994, and the now thirty-six-year-old admits that he did not realize how impactful The Santa Clause would come to be in the Christmas movie sector.

“I didn’t necessarily think it was going to be as big as it was,” he said.

“You don’t really think about how a kid’s movie like that would be made today– with the idea of divorce in there, the deadbeat dad, and the intense humor. It makes me think of what a staple it is in the holiday film genre, so I’m definitely happy I was part of it.”

And to call the original movie a slam dunk would be an understatement. After premiering, the film earned a whopping $145 million and was so widely beloved that Disney decided to release two more: The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.

Both of these films were also big hits– earning $139 million and $84.5 million, respectively.

Now, as of this holiday season, Disney has announced the release of a sequel miniseries, The Santa Clauses, on Disney+.

The series has six episodes in total, four of which have already been released on the streaming platform.

And for anyone who was worried that the original cast might get switched up, there is no need to fear: Tim Allen will stay on as Scott Calvin.

Additionally, David Krumholtz will again star as Bernard the Elf, and Elizabeth Mitchell has returned as Mrs. Claus.

As for Eric, he may be much older now, but he will still be making a guest appearance in the second episode of the series. Phew!

Aside from his extremely successful stint in holiday films, though, Eric has since moved on to pursue other passions– including filmmaking and music.

He graduated from Chapman University in California with a bachelor of fine arts degree in Film Production and later worked on the production of feature films– such as Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2 and Hijacked. Eric also worked on location for live music events.

And through these experiences, he cultivated a strong skillset for film and music post-production– specializing in editing, videography, production sound mixing, post-production audio design and audio mixing, and mixing for music professionals.

Finally, with this breadth of knowledge, Eric leaned into his entrepreneurial spirit and went into business for himself. In 2014, he established and launched LP Studios, which provides post-production services for both films and music.

LP Studios went on to service a diverse clientele list and hosted various events for musical artists, such as NAM JAM and Tiny Room, as well as concerts, band showcases, jam sessions, and promotional events.

Then, in 2020– after his five-year lease for LP Studios ended and Eric was faced with COVID-19 lockdowns– he decided to build Glen Rock Studio by transforming a detached studio into an eclectic production space.

Since pandemic restrictions have eased, Eric has also reimmersed himself in “build mode” and leased another building for his operation in Frogtown, Los Angeles– where he now continues to cater to loyal clients.

So, it is safe to say that Eric Lloyd has grown and matured a lot over the years since American children and adults alike first fell in love with him back in 1994. And even though the once-child actor may have left much of his acting pursuits in the past, The Santa Clause fans can still see him on screen at least one more time in The Santa Clauses series now streaming on Disney+.
