She Named Her Baby Girl “Eddie-Munson” After The “Stranger Things” Character Without Her Husband’s Permission, And Now Her Entire Family Is Furious
About three years ago, this twenty-eight-year-old woman married her husband, who is thirty-two. And apparently, much of their relationship has been based around the hit show Stranger Things.
The couple first met five years ago while attending Comic Con. They had both just gotten out of rough prior relationships and were dressed up as– you guessed it– Stranger Things characters. And not just any old characters, either.
She was specifically dressed up as Nancy Wheeler, and her husband was supposed to be Steve Harrington– the two teens who are head-over-heels in love with each other (but don’t always admit it). So, to her, their pairing felt like fate.
“It was like we were made for each other,” she recalled.
Then, after being married for a bit over two years, she and her husband found out that they were expecting their first child about nine months ago.
This was a massive surprise– since she had been told for years that she would never be able to conceive a child.
So, she and her husband were overjoyed, especially because they had always wanted kids but did not want to go through the adoption process.
Anyway, throughout her entire pregnancy, she and her husband binged a ton of television. They also specifically rewatched the entire Stranger Things series and got really into the show again. At that point, she also decided to name her baby after one of the fictional characters.
“Since it had such a huge impact on our relationship,” she explained.
She only told her husband and one of her best friends about this plan, and she claims they “endlessly supported her.” Still, she did not yet have any clue which characters to choose as a namesake.
Well, that was until season four of the show came out, and she was introduced to the edgy yet comical character Eddie Munson. At that point, she claims to have instantly fallen in love.
She was infatuated with his goofy vibe and honestly thought the actor who played Eddie– Joseph Quinn– was quite attractive, too. Even her younger sister, who was sixteen, could not get enough of Eddie, either.
Then, tragedy struck. Apparently, her sister had fallen ill a few years ago but had been on the upswing earlier this year.
The recovery period was brought to a screeching halt, though, and her sister’s health, unfortunately, declined severely after. Ultimately, her sister passed away in August of this year.
She and her entire family were there when they lost her sister. And somewhat shockingly, her sister’s last words were actually about Stranger Things.
“I can’t wait to see you, Eddie Munson,” her sister reportedly said.
And according to her, her mother was beyond upset by that. In fact, her mom even made a comment about how her sister did not love her family enough and only cared about “that stupid show.”
Plus, since she was really the one who introduced her sister to Stranger Things, her mom kind of drifted following her sister’s passing.
Her sister’s last words ultimately sparked a “light bulb moment” in her mind, though, and she fell in love with the idea of naming her baby “Eddie Munson.”
After all, she wanted to use a character’s name from the show, and she believed using Eddie’s would be a great way to honor her sister.
Then, she, of course, had to tell her husband about this plan. But he honestly was not that thrilled. At first, he tried to convince her to go in a different direction. She would not budge, though, and her husband eventually caved.
“He had told me to just name our kid Eddie or Eds or something like that, but I insisted on the full name Eddie Munson,” she admitted.
Throughout that name decision process, though, she had no clue what her baby’s gender was. So, come her delivery day, she and her husband actually found out they were blessed with a beautiful baby girl.
Despite that reality, though, she never thought to change the name to a more stereotypically female choice. And her husband and the rest of her family were shocked.
They all urged her to pick a different namesake. For instance, naming her new daughter after her late grandmother. Or using her sister’s real name, “Lily.”
However, she was adamant that the name had to be from Stranger Things and claimed that her sister would have wanted it. Moreover, it could not just be any character.
So, without her husband’s agreement, she decided to sign the birth certificate and name her daughter Eddie-Munson– all one name. And if you could not have guessed it, everyone was livid.
Her husband was specifically enraged, along with her mother-in-law and the rest of her own family.
Plus, her husband felt so “disrespected as a parent” that he actually went to stay with his sister in Seattle following the birth of their child.
Ever since then, she has also been receiving a ton of messages from her family about how horrible a name choice that was and how her daughter is going to get bullied beyond belief.
Honestly, though, she does not feel like she made a mistake by choosing to honor her sister. Moreover, she feels like everyone else is disrespecting her choice as the baby’s mother.
But, despite her own perspective on the situation, her husband is still furious and not even at home to be with their daughter during her first days. So, she has now been left wondering if her family is overreacting or if she is really a jerk for unilaterally deciding her baby’s name.
Can you believe she named her daughter without her husband’s input? Is naming a child after something in pop culture– such as a movie or television character– common? Is the real problem just that she made the name decision alone? If you were in her shoes, how would you reconcile this situation?
