His Wife Never Saves Him Any Dinner Even Though He Gets Home Very Late From Work Every Night, So He Brought It Up And Got Called Lazy

This 25-year-old guy and his wife, who is 26, have been together for over four years now. And according to him, they always had a very solid, love-filled relationship with one another.
Ever since they got married a year ago and got a one-bedroom apartment recently, though, he feels like things have shifted.
For context, he works very long hours during the week– somethings not even having any days off from work. So, he averages between 75 and 80 clocked hours per work week.
Due to this, he brings home the bulk of their money. In fact, his paychecks actually account for nearly 80% of their overall income.
“Not that it affects how I think of her and our relationship,” he said.
Besides, his wife is able to provide other things. For instance, she buys more “fun” groceries– like sweets and snacks. Plus, when they go out together, his wife can pay for things like drinks or server tips.
He really appreciates that, too, and makes sure to thank her whenever she pays.
On top of her monetary contributions, his wife also handles a majority of the chores in their apartment. So, he is essentially the one just paying for the bulk of their life– including rent, utilities, groceries, toiletries, outings, clothes, makeup, and all of that.
But his wife works in an extremely different field than him, where she only has three or four shifts per week. And apparently, the shifts are only an average of six to seven hours each work day– which has created some problems in his relationship.

Since a lot of his shifts end pretty late, he doesn’t get home until about 12:00 a.m. or 1:00 a.m. And due to the fact that he usually packs snacks for work but never gets to actually eat on the job, he is normally pretty hungry once he arrives at the apartment.
“Recently, those nights have been more frequent, and I just don’t want to have to cook something for myself after a 13-hour day after doing the same all week,” he explained.
“I just want to be able to eat with the minimal amount of work when I get home.”
So, when he returned home the other night at 1:30 a.m. and found his wife sleeping on the couch with an empty personal pizza pie from Little Caesars next to her, he got excited. He figured that she had also gotten one for him and just left it in the fridge.
Well, he wound up being wrong. And while he was not upset, he did admit to being annoyed.
Regardless, he ended up just microwaving some Chef Boyardee, eating it, and calling it a night.
What really irked him, though, was how the same thing happened the very next evening. That night, he got home again around 1:30 a.m. and found his wife passed out on the couch next to a bowl of macaroni and hot dogs– which is apparently his favorite.
But when he checked the fridge, there was nothing in there for him.
He didn’t understand why his wife couldn’t just cook enough food for the both of them before placing a bowl for him in the fridge.
So, he decided to just wake his wife up and ask about that in order to get to the bottom of the situation.
Now, he detailed how his wife usually gets a bit snappy whenever someone wakes her up from sleep. But that time, she was seriously angry– claiming that she was not his maid and accusing him of being lazy for expecting her to cook.
At that point, he just tried to explain how he was really hungry after a long day and found it hurtful that she didn’t even think to cook for him while already cooking for herself.
Plus, he said that his wife was being really inconsiderate– and that’s what pushed her over the edge.
“That set her off– saying if I want a slave, then she’s not it,” he recalled.
He claimed that was far from what he wanted, though, and instead just wanted a wife who really seemed to care about him. And his wife was apparently just taken aback by that statement because she looked at him with a very shocked face before storming out.
Afterward, it became clear that she had gone to her mother’s house after their fight since he wound up receiving texts from his mother-in-law. His mother-in-law claimed that his wife showed up bawling her eyes out and told him that he should have been more considerate of her feelings.
“I haven’t even responded because I just feel hurt and not cared for. I just wanted dinner,” he vented.
In the wake of the argument, though, he has still been left wondering whether he was somehow the jerk in this situation.
If you knew your partner got home super late, and you planned to make or pick up dinner anyway, would you save them some food? Does he have a right to feel hurt? At the same time, do you think waking his wife up to talk so late at night was the right way to broach the topic? How could he have addressed this differently?
