He knew he had to come up with a solution as days went by where Lilly wouldn’t touch her food. He doesn’t want her to starve.
“I know how brutal middle schoolers can be,” he explained. “I didn’t want Lily to feel insecure or upset, even if it meant making her take other lunches, but Sara refuses to make other lunches.”
He began switching out the lunch he would take to work with Lilly’s school lunches. Instead, he’d pack her things like sandwiches and mac and cheese, foods she wouldn’t be insecure about in the lunchroom, while he’d take Lilly’s school lunch that her mom packed.
It worked for two weeks, and Lilly would return home from school in a much better mood. Then, however, Sara found out about the switching and was furious.
Sara accused him of denying Lilly her culture and raising her to believe she can get whatever she wants, adding that Lilly needs to learn to “stop being insulted by other kids.”
Do you think Sara’s right or that he did his daughter a favor by switching her lunches?
