At that point, she just said hello and engaged in some small talk before introducing her to her friend group.
Afterward, she and her coworker went their separate ways. But, it later became clear that her coworker had her eyes on John. That’s because the next day at work, her coworker wound up asking if John was single and if she could get them together.
Despite John being single, though, her first instinct was to claim that he was taken. Regardless, that didn’t stop her coworker from asking a ton of questions about his “relationship”– including how long it had been going on and if it was “solid.”
Still, she didn’t want to entertain the conversation any longer, so she wound up claiming that she didn’t have a lot of details since she and John don’t hang out that often– which was another lie. Afterward, she continued deflecting the topic before just telling her coworker that she had to go.
And at the time, she thought she did the right thing protecting John because she genuinely believed her coworker would be a horrible match for him.
“I have no doubt that she’d be able to weasel into his life if given a chance, as she’s pretty attractive,” she said.
However, she is still worried that somehow, her lie is going to blow up in her face. So now, she’s not sure whether being dishonest with her coworker about John’s relationship status was the wrong thing to do.
Is it strange that her coworker was asking if John’s relationship was “solid?” Regardless, do you think she did the right thing by trying to protect John? Or should she have told the truth, and if her coworker pursued him, allowed him to make the decision himself? What would you have done?
