She Recently Ran Into Her Younger Brother, Who Claimed That Her Dad Is Lying About The Real Reason Her Mom Left When She Was Younger

When this 18-year-old girl was just 10, her mother left her father. And in the process, she didn’t just lose her mom, but she also lost her 6-year-old brother Max– who was taken by her mom.
At the time, her mom did promise to visit. But unfortunately, that never happened, and her dad decided that it was not worth risking losing custody of her by going after custody of her brother– even though it was devastating for her dad to lose his son.
So, her dad tried to move on and date other women, although no relationships ever became serious. Regardless, she ultimately became pretty self-sufficient as a young girl, and her dad was apparently a “mess.”
“My maternal aunt, Sam, would appear every so often, but we would avoid the elephant in the room, and she would take me out on a trip to the zoo or to get pizza,” she recalled.
“Dad really didn’t like Sam, but he didn’t stop me from seeing her, and we just sort of agreed not to talk about my mom.”
So, as you can imagine, losing her mom was very tough on her. But, to her, it was clear that her mom had decided to keep Max and leave her behind.
That’s why she eventually tried to get over everything. She realized that if her mom wanted to be with a different man, then so be it.
Anyway, she recently started working at a pizza place that her aunt apparently used to bring her to when she was little. And even though she doesn’t really remember those pizza outings, she figured the sort-of memory would help her out during her interview.
So, she landed the job and was working last Thursday. It was a pretty slow shift, and she usually finishes early on Thursdays anyway since she has school the following morning.

But then, toward the end of her shift, a random kid walked in, and she sat him down at a booth in the corner.
Afterward, she started collecting some dirty dishes from a nearby table before taking the kid’s order. And while the kid– a young boy– ordered, she realized he looked pretty grumpy the entire time.
“So, I left him to it. You don’t really expect tips from kids, anyways,” she said.
Eventually, she also finished up her shift while the kid was still eating his pizza. So she just went out to her car and got ready to head home.
But then, out of nowhere, she heard a voice calling her name in the parking lot. And it just so happened to be the same kid from inside the pizza place.
“I’ll be honest, I don’t really pay much attention to how customers look as there can be dozens of them in an hour, and they blur together,” she explained.
“But out in the parking lot, I did recognize him, and I felt stupid for not realizing before. It was Max.”
After realizing the kid was her brother at that moment, she didn’t know whether to feel happy, worried, or angry. She realized that her brother, who was still only 14, should not have been out by himself.
Plus, the last time she heard anything about Max was that he was living on the other side of the country.
So she was obviously confused, but she still went to hug her brother and tried to say how happy her father would be to see him.
But to her surprise, Max flinched backward and appeared pretty upset. Then, Max actually started yelling at her– accusing her of being a bad sister for ignoring him and claiming he would not be going to visit their father.
This pushed her to start crying, but she was just so confused why her brother hijacked her after her shift and started screaming at her for no reason.
Still, things eventually calmed down, and Max asked why she never went to visit him or her mom. And at that point, she tried to be honest.
She pointed out how it was hard to visit when her mom ran off in the middle of the night, never leaving even a letter behind, and only took one child.
Anyway, after that, she told her brother to just get into the car. But he refused, so she called her aunt Sam– and she was instructed to drive both herself and Max to Sam’s house.
Upon arriving, her aunt hugged Max and claimed his mother was worried sick. But she was still a bit shaken up and asked if she could just call her father now.
Her request only caused Max to start fighting with her again, though, and she was forced to tell Max off.
“I told him it wasn’t my fault if our mom lied to him or whatever, but our dad deserved to see him,” she revealed.
It was at that point that her aunt Sam stepped in and shared the truth: her mom was never on the other side of the country. Instead, her mom had just moved a few hours away after fleeing a harmful marriage.
Apparently, her parents had met when they were young and gave birth to her pretty quickly. And her aunt Sam claimed that her father was not a good man or a good partner, which hurt her mom and made her mom depressed.
“But surely I would have noticed if bad things were happening? My dad was a big softie my whole childhood. It was only after my mom left that he got quiet and sad,” she reasoned.
Regardless, her aunt Sam and Max maintained that her mom was not the bad guy in the situation. And now, she’s having a lot of trouble believing their side of the story.
She loves her father and realizes that he is all she’s ever had. She also knows that her aunt Sam might just be trying to protect her mom’s reputation with Max.
That’s why she really does not want to believe what her aunt Sam and Max told her. But, at the same time, she also doesn’t want to ruin her chance of finally getting to know her brother.
“I want a relationship with Max, and I want my dad to actually get to see his son, as losing him destroyed him,” she vented.
“But I don’t want Max to freak out based on whatever he thinks happened.”
So now, she’s been left wondering how to figure out who is telling the truth without jeopardizing a relationship with her younger brother again.
Is it likely that neither she nor Max has the full story about what happened between their parents? If her goal is to have a relationship with her younger brother, should she try to change how Max views their mom and dad? Or should she just leave their parents out of it and focus on reconnecting with her brother?
