When this woman’s son was four years old, he struggled with some intense issues related to his behavior.

Her son’s doctor was in the process of arranging for her son to be evaluated, but this doctor retired before they could do the evaluation, so her son was then going to be seen by a new doctor at this practice.

“The new doctor was fresh out of college and was so dismissive. She met with my son once, went over his charts, and point-blank told me my son was acting like this because of me. She spent the entire 30-minute appointment telling me how to parent my kid and what I was doing wrong,” she said.

This doctor told her that her parenting was inconsistent and undisciplined and that her son didn’t behave because she didn’t stand up to him and show him that he needed to respect her.

Not only were the doctor’s comments rude, but so were her tone and body language.

Each time that she tried to express an issue with her son’s behavior, the doctor smirked at her or rolled her eyes.

“She said, ‘Yeah, he does that because you’re young and don’t know what you’re doing. Children aren’t playthings. This is what happens when babies have babies (I was 24),” she explained.

Shockingly, her son was this doctor’s first patient since getting out of college and completing her job shadowing.

Later on in the appointment, she mentioned her concern related to her son’s breathing.

According to the doctor, this was a behavioral issue, and she claimed the child did this in order to get what he wanted. The doctor felt this way because the child would purposely hold his breath before he started to scream and hyperventilate.

After the appointment, she was understandably distraught and burst into tears. She then immediately filed a complaint against this doctor and switched to another before she left the office.

“The doctor they switched my son to was great. They did the evaluation like his original doctor wanted, and it was determined that he had ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder) and gave me resources to manage it. Not only that, but they also diagnosed him with asthma after checking his O2, it being 84. He was later diagnosed with ADHD,” she shared.

Unfortunately, this doctor recently switched to another practice, so she only has two doctors to choose from at the pediatric office.

One of the doctors available is the dismissive doctor she filed a complaint about four years ago.

When the receptionist at the front desk attempted to switch her son to be seen by this doctor, she denied approving it.

Reasonably, she doesn’t want this doctor to see her son, but the only other pediatric doctor is “slammed with patients.”

Then, she was asked to attend a meeting with the doctor who she filed the complaint against.

At the meeting, the doctor said she was sorry and requested that she move on from their past interaction, assuring her that she’s “‘more educated’ now” and believes that she deserves forgiveness.

According to the doctor, what happened was a “‘small'” issue and not a big deal.

But she didn’t change her mind, letting the doctor know that she wouldn’t be allowing her around her or her son because of intense disrespect four years ago.

The only other pediatric doctor already has a heavy caseload, so they would be really stressed if they took on her son as another patient to see.

When she asked her husband for his input, he believed that she was a jerk for not allowing this doctor to have a second chance.

However, she doesn’t think the doctor is owed another chance when she made it clear during this meeting that she is still as dismissive as ever.

What would you do if you were in her shoes?
