Her Fiancé’s Parents Are Threatening To Skip Their Wedding Since Her Fiancé Is Taking Her Last Name
This 22-year-old girl and her 21-year-old fiancé, Alex, have been with one another for six years, and their wedding will be happening soon.
She never thought about how important her last name was to her until a couple of things happened in her family, and now it’s incredibly meaningful for her to keep her last name instead of taking on Alex’s.
Alex doesn’t care that she doesn’t want to follow tradition, and instead, he said he will change his last name to hers so they can still “match.”
Well, as soon as Alex’s mom, Lisa, and dad, Luke, found out that he’s changing his last name to hers, they started screaming at Alex.
Lisa got so overwhelmingly angry that her own mom and dad allowed her and Alex to stay with them for the final week of their winter break.
They both were home from college for winter break and were spending that time at Lisa and Luke’s house.
“Lisa and Luke say Alex is destroying and disowning his family, publicly humiliating them, and say I’m stripping him of his manhood,” she explained.
Lisa and Luke say women should submit to men, and this is flying in the face of their beliefs. Ever since she and Alex left Lisa and Luke’s house, Lisa has sent a barrage of awful texts to Alex.
Lisa has said Alex is awful and full of hate, and allowing her to “suffer” for changing his last name and not following a traditional marriage.

Alex attempted to meet with his parents in person after that, but it went really far south. Lisa and Luke maintained they would not discuss the last name thing, but then they brought it up.
Lisa and Luke are also upset that Alex left their house to stay with her parents, and they said if Alex follows through with changing his name, they will forever resent her and her whole family for being on board with it.
“Lisa threatened to cut Alex off and says he won’t get another penny (they had planned to contribute to our wedding, stating there were no strings attached, and they fund his college apartment),” she said.
“Lisa said this is the worst thing to happen to her since losing her first baby…She’s telling Alex that his grandparents will have to move to assisted living from heartbreak, and Luke keeps telling Alex his choice is hurting people. Their main reason seems to be that it is tradition and that they want the last name carried on (it’s not an uncommon last name).”
“I also learned that Lisa borderline tried to talk Alex out of proposing. Alex asked me to marry him anyway, and Lisa called my mom in the midst of the engagement excitement to share her disapproval. They said that they get a say until Alex is married, and that’s when they’ll leave us be.”
Lisa and Luke have hardly stopped there. They kept texting her parents too, but her parents aren’t engaging with them.
Lisa and Luke have resorted to talking trash about her nonstop, so she has decided to end whatever relationship she did have with them. Alex is on the fence about whether he should follow suit.
Additionally, Lisa and Luke have threatened not to come to their wedding and are now getting the entire family to boycott their wedding, too. One of Alex’s siblings has exited their wedding party over the drama.
She and Alex are still going to have their wedding, as Lisa and Luke not wanting to financially contribute is not going to stop them, but they don’t know what to do.
