Across the armed services, women make up approximately 17 percent of the active-duty military as of 2021, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. Their representation is small and is only growing at minimal rates.

As a result, their stories from their time in the military, whether they’re about personal experiences or career accomplishments, are often overlooked in favor of men’s narratives.

A TikTok user who goes by the handle @pending.any.quest is a member of the U.S. Army, and on her account, she shares snippets of what life is like as a woman in the military, which is somewhat rare to come across.

For women serving in the military, the battlefield extends beyond the front lines and into aspects of their personal lives, particularly romantic relationships.

Love is also like a battlefield of sorts. Just like any other woman, she struggles to navigate the complexities of dating.

In one of her videos, she reveals some details about a horrible date she went on. A guy had taken her to run errands on a date, but the errands actually turned out to be something quite unpleasant.

When she first joined the army, she went on a date with a guy named Josh. He asked her to run some errands with him and grab dinner afterward.

She thought it was such a cute and casual idea, so she agreed to it.

However, the so-called errands he took her on consisted of a trip to his ex-girlfriend’s house. He had just broken up with her that same morning, and he needed to pick up the guns he had left there.

The situation has left her contemplating whether love within the confines of the military is worth the risk.

Several people in the comments section thought that Josh was either bringing her along as a witness in case a fight broke out or simply using her to make his ex-girlfriend jealous.

One commenter even shared a similar grievance: “I got invited over for dinner. Little did I know I was going to help this man put together a whole bed and take his old one downstairs to the dumpster.”

As you can see, seeking genuine connections can be difficult and draining no matter who or where you are.

But even amidst the trials and tribulations, women’s strength and resilience when it comes to matters of the heart will continue to propel them forward.
