Her Brother’s Wife Felt She Stole The Spotlight At Their Wedding With The Speech She Gave
This 19-year-old woman has always been close to her older brother, Mark, 25. They’ve always been best friends; she considers him her favorite sibling. A while ago, Mark proposed to his now-fiancée, Emma, 23.
Throughout the time she’s known Emma, they’ve always gotten along well. Whenever Emma came by the house, they would chat and were always cordial with one another.
After Mark and Emma announced their engagement, Emma didn’t ask her to be a bridesmaid. She wasn’t upset about this because she knew that if the roles were reversed, she wouldn’t have asked Emma to be a bridesmaid at her wedding.
“The problem started when my brother asked me to be one of his ‘groomswomen.’ Emma was totally against this, arguing it was untraditional and I’d stick out,” she said.
However, Mark stood by his decision because she was a huge part of his life and one of the people closest to him, so he wanted her to have a role at his wedding.
In addition, Mark hoped for her to make a speech, like the maid of honor and best man do for the bride and groom.
Emma was furious about this idea, claiming that a speech from her and the maid of honor would be dull for the guests, who would think their dinner was too long.
But Mark doubled down again, arguing that if Emma could have her maid of honor speak, someone close to him should also be able to make a speech in support of him. Finally, Emma gave up trying to change Mark’s mind, but she occasionally whined about it.
On Mark and Emma’s wedding day, she wore a black, high-cut dress to better blend in with the groomsmen. She stood on her brother’s side of the altar during the ceremony.

After dinner, Emma’s maid of honor gave a lengthy speech, praising Emma for being the most wonderful person in the world and sharing stories from their childhood. During the speech, Emma’s maid of honor only brought up her brother once.
She gave her speech right afterward and began by congratulating Emma and Mark on their wedding, wishing them good luck.
Then, she shared some stories of Mark and included Emma often during her speech. After her speech, the wedding continued smoothly, or so she thought.
The following morning, Emma reached out and asked if she could come over for a chat. She was baffled at first because she’d assumed that Emma and Mark had already gone on their honeymoon, but it turned out that they weren’t leaving for a few days.
When she got to Emma and Mark’s place, Mark was still asleep. Emma was acting friendly and making light conversation before diving into the reason she invited her over.
Apparently, Emma felt like her speech humiliated her and distracted everyone from her special day. She was baffled because, during her speech, she praised Emma multiple times, so she asked Emma to clarify what she’d done that offended her.
“She told me that it looked like I was trying to upstage her with all my makeup and my dark-colored dress that ‘took away from her spotlight,'” she explained.
Emma argued that her speech centered around her relationship with Mark, which was inaccurate, adding that she felt excluded from a massive “inside joke.”
During her explanation, Emma opined that since it was her wedding day, she should have expected all the attention to be on her.
“I corrected her by saying, ‘It’s not all about you. My brother also got married yesterday. Get over yourself.’ Emma looked red like a tomato when she yelled at me, saying I was in love with my brother and that I ruined her one special day because I couldn’t get over myself,” she shared.
After that, Emma had a meltdown right there in the living room. She decided to leave, so she grabbed her car keys, walked out, and drove home because since it was only 10 a.m., she knew she couldn’t handle the situation any longer.
Once she arrived home, she took a while to process what just happened before taking a nap. When she awoke, she had more than 10 missed calls from Emma and Mark, plus a couple of voicemails from Emma.
In the voicemails, Emma told her that after informing Mark of their argument, he agreed that she’d gone too far with her words to Emma, and he wanted her to apologize. If she refused to apologize, Emma said she and Mark would go no-contact with her.
Upon reflection, she doesn’t feel like she said anything out of line, but because of Emma and Mark’s reaction, now she’s unsure.
