When you get invited out to dinner, there are so many vibes your style and outfit can give off. One of the first things I do when I get invited to a dinner is look up the restaurant and take a look at pictures of the inside and the menu. Why? So I can decide what to wear and what to eat.

Sometimes, I get stuck on what to wear to a casual dinner. Casual dinners are usually reserved for weeknights or weekend evenings with friends or a loved one at a spot where the food and ambiance aren’t too fancy.

However, even if a dinner is described as casual, you don’t want to always show up in jeans and a tee shirt.

If you have a handful of casual dinners in your social calendar and could use some ideas for what to wear, here are a few!

A casual button-down shirt

I love the look of a nice linen button-down shirt. If you’re lost for what to wear, pairing a camisole or tank top of any color with an open, button-down shirt and jeans or trousers is always a safe option. These are especially great to wear during the springtime when the weather isn’t too hot or cold.

Neutral clothes and statement accessories

Sometimes, when we know we’re going someplace casual, we reach for our go-to neutral clothes like our favorite black turtleneck and solid jeans.

While your neutral pieces are great, you can take them to the next level with statement accessories. If you’re wearing mostly black or beige, spice things up with a red bag or bright-colored shoes.

A maxi dress

I love maxi dresses because they are usually really comfortable and can be dressed up or dressed down. For a casual dinner, you can wear your maxi dress with a denim jacket and strappy pair of sandals or some sneakers, sunglasses, a tote, etc.

A statement coat

If you’ll be eating outside and it’s not very sunny or if you are struggling with what to wear, you can always wear a comfortable neutral outfit under an exciting statement coat. Sport your brightest or most interesting-looking coat to a casual dinner, and you’ll feel great.

All denim

A lot of people cringe at the idea of wearing ‘double denim’ or denim pants and a denim jacket, but the look is making a comeback, and it’s a great outfit idea for a casual dinner. You can wear an all-denim romper or pair your favorite pair of wide-leg leggings with a denim jacket in a similar wash.

Now, you have some solid ideas to build off of for your next casual dinner plan. Get out there and enjoy your evening!
