This 27-year-old woman and her friend, who is 28, have been close ever since they were in college, and throughout their friendship, they’ve always been very honest with each other.

But, while they were hanging out the other night, her unfiltered honesty about her friend’s new boyfriend landed her in some pretty hot water.

It all began when they decided to have a girls’ night in to catch up, and they started chatting about all different topics– including relationships.

Then, out of nowhere, her friend started “gushing” about their new boyfriend and claiming that he was a “solid ten out of ten” in terms of both personality and looks.

“Now, I’ve met her boyfriend before, and yeah, he’s a nice guy, but let’s just say he wouldn’t be winning any beauty contests,” she said. Yikes.

So, instead of just nodding along or being supportive of her friend, she actually just bursted out laughing at the statement! She claims that she simply couldn’t help it, either.

“I mean, it was such an exaggerated statement, and I found it hilarious,” she recalled.

Her friend, on the other hand, didn’t find her reaction funny whatsoever and just looked back at her– hurt and confused.

She immediately tried to backtrack, too, and made up an excuse as to why she was laughing– saying she was just “surprised” by her friend’s “enthusiasm.”

Nonetheless, the damage was done, and her friend was really quiet for the rest of their girls’ night. Things also felt really awkward, and she could tell her friend was pretty upset.

“Looking back, I realize how insensitive I was,” she admitted.

“I should have just smiled and congratulated my friend on her happiness instead of mocking her perception of her boyfriend.”

To be clear, her friend has never directly said anything about her response to the “ten out of ten” comment. But her friend’s been distant ever since, and she wishes she could take back her reaction.

She’s also been left wondering if literally laughing out loud at her friend was really a jerky move.

Was laughing out loud at her friend and their new boyfriend uncalled for? Even if she doesn’t find the guy attractive, should she have kept that to herself? How would you have felt in her friend’s shoes?
