After The Loss Of His Beloved Minature Pinscher, A Retired Senior From Colorado Opened Up His Home And Adopted 11 Senior Dogs In Hopes Of Giving Them A Better, More Loving Future
I’ve always admired people who have big enough hearts to adopt and rescue senior dogs.
So often, people focus on adopting puppies or dogs no more than two to three years old. However, so many senior dogs deserve just as much love and care as puppies, and they often spend their final years in a shelter or foster home because they’re overlooked.
Thankfully, there are people like Steve Grieg, who not only wants to see a better future for senior dogs but has opened his home to several of them.
Steve is a retired man living in Denver, Colorado. He’s 59-years-old and has 12 roommates. Well, they’re not human roommates but animal roommates!
After the tragic loss of his beloved 12-year-old Miniature Pinscher, Wolfgang, in 2012, Steve figured out the best way to honor his memory. It was to give adoptable senior dogs a second chance at life in a comfy, cozy, loving home.
It all started with a 12-year-old Chihuahua named Eeyore, whom he adopted not long after Wolfgang’s passing.
After feeling so great about adopting Eeyore and being able to give a senior dog a loving home, he decided to rescue more senior dogs, giving them a great home where he could offer them all the love and care they needed in their old age.
Steve has 11 senior dogs with him today and another special animal friend, Bikini, the pot-bellied pig!
Steve also owns several chickens, and one of them, Betty, prefers to sleep inside his house rather than in the coop. There’s also Cranberry, his turkey, who roams around his property and makes visitors smile.

Not only is Steve passionate about giving a home to senior dogs, but he’s also raising awareness for all the homeless senior dogs in shelters across the globe that need homes just as if not more urgently than younger dogs.
He works with shelters in his home state, participates in fundraisers, and helps find foster homes for senior animals who need them.
Since going viral on Instagram (@wolfgang2422), where he shares special footage of his day-to-day life with his crew of lovely old pups, Steve has written a children’s book about adopting senior dogs and has been interviewed by several large news outlets.
“I never really know what’s going to draw me to a particular dog,” wrote Steve in one of his Instagram captions.
“What I do know is that all kinds of dogs from all kinds of backgrounds end up abandoned and homeless. There is one (or more) out there, perfect for you.”
