Whether you realize it or not, if you’ve been dating for a while or on a quest to find your true love, you most likely have a type.

You could be really into guys with facial hair or people who are blonde or have tattoos. Sometimes, people can be self-aware when it comes to their ideal type, but for others, it can take a while to recognize you have a type and what that type is.

But one of the latest dating trends actually encourages you to let go of your dating type and embrace some change.

If you have a type but haven’t necessarily had much luck on the dating front recently, you may be interested in trying contra-dating.

Contra-dating is a dating technique that encourages you to be more open-minded when it comes to finding a partner.

With contra-dating, instead of trying hard to date someone your type or your ideal partner, be more open-minded and date people who fit all those criteria. Better yet, go out with someone who is the opposite of your type.

Now, that may sound unpleasant or something you don’t want to do. But, think about it this way – sometimes we try so hard to find the ‘perfect partner’ or look so hard for someone who looks or acts a very certain way that we limit ourselves from meeting great people.

There are so many wonderful, kind, attractive people out there who you may be preventing yourself from meeting because you’re so focused on finding one specific type of person.

Now, while contra-dating encourages you to date outside your type, it doesn’t mean you should drop your standards or sacrifice the things you really want from a partner that doesn’t have to do with their looks.
