He Thinks His Girlfriend Needs To “Grow Up” And Start Pulling Her Weight Around The House Because He Feels Like He’s Living With A Teenager

This 30-year-old man has been living with his girlfriend, who is 30, for the past four months. But, ever since they’ve moved in together, he’s grown increasingly frustrated with his girlfriend and believes that she doesn’t really pull her weight around the house.
For some context, when it comes to finances, they basically split their essential bills equally. Then, since he earns more than his girlfriend, he “inevitably” pays more for their non-essentials – such as their Netflix subscription, takeout, and when they go out for drinks.
However, he claims that his girlfriend doesn’t drive, doesn’t work out, and never finished college. Plus, around the house, she doesn’t contribute to really any chores.
For instance, she rarely cooks or cleans the kitchen and avoids doing anything that involves physical labor or “gross smells.” His girlfriend is also a vegetarian and tends to be very picky about her meals.
So, since she doesn’t cook, she expects him to never cook with or eat meat whenever she’s home.
“And she can be very critical and belittling of things like my dress sense, appearance, and interests, even though I’ve said multiple times it’s something I’m self-conscious about,” he added.
He’s tried talking to his girlfriend about this, too, but every time he brings up her rude comments, she just says that she “can’t help it” and it’s how she “expresses love.” To him, though, this is bologna since she is constantly criticizing others but cannot take any criticism herself.
Still, his main issues with their relationship have to do with his girlfriend’s lack of contribution around the house.
“She has a crafting hobby which she binges for hours at a time at the expense of household duties,” he explained.

“Sometimes, she stays up until ungodly hours of the morning and wakes me up when I need to wake up early for work.”
Not to mention, ever since they moved in together, their love life has taken a nosedive. He and his girlfriend only sleep together maybe once a week now. But, there are sometimes gaps of up to three weeks, and his girlfriend doesn’t even seem to care.
The pile of problems has become too much for him, too, which is why he’s repeatedly brought up these issues. But, every time, his girlfriend just acknowledges that his requests are responsible yet never follows through on any of her promises to change. And he finds it extremely frustrating.
“I try to give her a break because she had a very tough time in her twenties and developed a chronic illness,” he reasoned.
“But she’s capable of working full-time, binge drinking on the weekend, going away on girls trips, etc.,”
So, to him, it feels like he’s living with a 16-year-old, and he’s completely sick of it.
“I can’t imagine spending the rest of my life feeling this resentment,” he vented.
That’s why he wants his girlfriend to “grow up” and start pulling her weight in their relationship. But he’s still unsure if his feelings are justified or not.
Does it sound like he and his girlfriend are really compatible? Is it a blessing in disguise that he’s realizing this after only four months of living together? What should he do?
