When his panic subsided hours later, she suggested that they visit each of the seven restaurants at their all-inclusive resort, hoping to end the day on a more positive note.
However, he would not allow them to enjoy taste-testing the dishes because he was acting super antsy and restless the whole time.
By the fifth restaurant, he insisted on finding a gas station so he could buy a new e-cigarette. He also did not speak any Spanish, so Michelle was forced to translate for him. They had to take a taxi to a sketchy lounge 50 minutes away from the resort. He paid $50 for an e-cigarette, and the taxi ride cost $100.
The next morning, she told him that he ruined their vacation. In response, he whined about how he had issues.
It was now time to leave the resort and head to the airport. At the airport, he complained about customs and having to fill out forms. When they landed back at home, he dropped her off at her place.
A couple of days later, she invited him out to a restaurant, saying that they needed to discuss the future of their relationship.
He showed up at her door with two bouquets of flowers and a cooler filled with sliced turkey meat from the deli. When she asked what the turkey was for, he said it was a metaphor for how he was going to quit vaping cold turkey for her.
She found out at the restaurant that he had a problem with substance abuse and told him that they needed to break up.
He started sobbing in the middle of the restaurant. On the drive home, he played a song called “It Was Fun While It Lasted.”
She could not believe that a 30-year-old man had made her throw away an entire vacation just for an electronic cigarette, brought her turkey deli meat to make up for it, and sobbed in public because of their breakup. It just goes to show that you never know a man until you go on vacation with him.
