He Found Out His Girlfriend Was Cheating, So After She Moved Out And Left Her Dog Behind, He Gave Her Dog Away

“I don’t have time for a dog with my job, so I told her she needed to take her. She asked me to please take care of Haley until they found a place that accepts pets, and I did for six months. [My ex] started coming by less and less to see Haley. I had to take on more responsibility for her dog.”

While he was working or out of town, he started asking his next-door neighbor’s kid to walk and take care of Haley. The kid loved the dog and did an excellent job caring for her.

After realizing that his ex was not likely to take her dog home, he asked his neighbors if they wanted to keep her. They enthusiastically said yes, so he gave his ex a two-week window to get Haley before she went to live with the neighbors. His ex never responded and ended up blocking him.

“The neighbor kid took the dog two weeks ago to see how she did in their house [and] everything went great,” he said.

“Haley likes her more than she likes me, [so] I gave Haley and all her stuff to the neighbors. We went to the vet and had the microchip transferred to them. My ex called me [recently] to beg me to take care of Haley just a little longer, [though] she had not given me money for dog food or come by to see Haley in a month. I told her that I had re-homed Haley with someone responsible. She is telling everyone that I’m a [jerk] for giving away her dog.”

He feels that after paying Haley’s adoption fee, registering her in their state, paying her vet bills, and taking care of her while his ex practically abandoned her, Haley was legally his, and he could do what he wanted with her.

He can rest more easily knowing Haley is with a loving and responsible family and sees them with her in the park from time to time. His ex, however, is making him out to be a monster for what he did.

Was he wrong to re-home Haley, or was it the right thing to do?
