Wealth can divide people in subtle ways, but most of the time, it's so blatant that it can make the average person feel like a zoo animal.

One time, TikToker Jonathan Tristan (@your_finance_brother) was at a party at Duke University, where a girl was talking to him with wide-eyed amazement.

She couldn't stop talking about how cool it was that he was just a normal person who went to public school, yet he ended up in the same place as her.

This girl came from a billionaire family and had attended elite private schools in New York her whole life. She gathered all her friends around Jonathan to admire him like he was some kind of spectacle.

She kept raving about how smart he was and insisted that he tell all her friends about how he worked his way up to reach the same privileged position as them.

Apparently, her friends had never crossed paths with someone like him before.

"I was like, I can't tell if it's a good thing that you're aware that you're different or that it's a major, concerning point that you think this is a normal social topic to have a conversation about," said Jonathan.

He was completely baffled. The entire exchange had felt so surreal. It became abundantly clear that the wealth gap between them was enormous.

His video resonated with others who had experienced the same kind of interactions with wealthy people.

"This happened to me at a big internship I had when everyone was shocked my family didn't get me the internship. They were like, 'Did you just apply or something?'" commented one user.

"My brother went Ivy, and classmates would send him car listings asking if normal people would drive these cars," stated another.

"I had a girl come up to me at a bar crying on my shoulder because, apparently, she was now considered 'middle class.' I looked her up, and her dad is a billionaire," shared a third.

"One time, I went on a family vacation on a cruise. We were having dinner with another family (they were very wealthy) from the cruise ship, and in the middle of a conversation, we found out none of them had ever been to a Walmart," wrote someone else.

Overall, Jonathan's story highlights just how differently life can look, depending on the way you grew up. For some, a trip to Walmart is mundane, but for others, it's unimaginable.
