When you share a life with someone, you don’t just accumulate memories: you also stock up on literal stuff that reminds you of them and your overall relationship. That’s why, following breakups, there’s a common debate over whether exes should return gifts and other random items.
In my opinion, it’s okay to be on either side of that argument, too. Some people may want to hold on to certain items from their past and store them away as mementos, while others prefer to start fresh and eliminate any remaining traces of their previous relationship.
However, what’s arguably not okay is expecting your ex to pay you back for the presents they gave you over the years. So, after this woman recently received the same shocking request from her ex, she actually laughed in his face.
For some context, they were together for two years and only split up a few weeks ago. Their breakup wasn’t loud or dramatic, either. Rather, it was just a typical “this isn’t working out” separation, which she thought they both understood.
Well, just yesterday, she randomly received an Excel spreadsheet from her ex, which listed all the gifts he’d purchased for her over the past two years.
“Clothes, birthday presents, flowers, and even a coffee mug were considered gifts,” she noted.
Then, her ex claimed that she needed to either return the items or buy them back at “fair market value.” He felt that since he “invested” in her and it didn’t pay off, he was entitled to get his stuff back.
She honestly couldn’t help but laugh. Yet, her ex was dead serious and proceeded to accuse her of “robbing” him by keeping a pair of sneakers he’d given her for Christmas.
“The same guy had lost my AirPods, which he had borrowed. Those did not appear on the spreadsheet,” she remarked.

So, she wound up telling her ex that he wouldn’t be getting anything and that he should really compensate her for the two years of life they spent together.
“He blocked me after that,” she revealed.
And now, she’s just been left in awe that someone could act so entitled.
Is her ex’s audacity shocking? Do you think he went too far by expecting repayment for the “gifts?” How would you have reacted?
