On February 17, 2008, Marilyn Bergeron went out for a walk and never returned home. At the time of her disappearance, she was 24 years old and had just moved back into her parents' home in Quebec City, Canada. Apparently, she no longer felt safe living alone, but did not go into any more detail.

In late 2007, Marilyn was a sales assistant at a music store and lived in an apartment in Montreal. She dreamed of becoming a flight attendant and was generally a bright and optimistic person. But in December, something caused her light to dim.

According to her friend, Jonathan Gauthier, he met up with her at her apartment on December 10 so they could go to a party together. He found her sitting in the dark, and she seemed really down in the dumps.

At the party, she became anxious, so they went back to her place. Upon their arrival, she burst into tears. When Jonathan asked if she had witnessed a murder, she told him it was even worse than that.

"She was really sad and was afraid of something," said Jonathan. "She was inconsolable...I tried to get her to talk for three or four hours. I felt like she didn't want to put me in danger."

She also denied being assaulted. The next month, she told her parents that she was afraid to live alone. Her mother asked if she had gotten into trouble with drugs or debt, but Marilyn denied both. She began crying when her mother asked if she had been assaulted.

On February 10, 2008, she moved back in with her parents in Quebec City. By February 16, she had finished moving her belongings from her apartment. Then, she vanished the following morning.

That morning, she told her parents she was going for a walk. Around 11 a.m., an ATM camera captured her trying to withdraw $60. She kept glancing over her shoulder as her card declined and rushed off.

At 4 p.m., she bought a cup of coffee at a café about 12 miles from her parents' house. Her card was never used again after purchasing the coffee.

Marilyn's parents reported her missing that evening. A massive search was conducted, and there was plenty of media attention surrounding her case, but no one reported any information about Marilyn. Her family and the authorities believed she was dead.

In the spring of 2010, a couple in Quebec saw a news report about Marilyn and realized that she looked familiar. Back in December 2009, a young woman who looked exactly like Marilyn knocked on their door in the middle of the night.

She was crying and asked to use their phone, so they let her inside. No one answered her call, so she asked for directions and left.

Over the years, there have been multiple reports of sightings of Marilyn, although none of them have been confirmed by police. Marilyn's parents hope this mystery will be solved soon so they can finally receive closure.
