When TikToker @.jmara was volunteering at her daughter’s school as a recess monitor, she somehow ended up with five extra kids in her class. Her daughter’s teacher, Miss Woods, counted out 14 kids for her to take outside for recess.
Once they were outside, she kept a close eye on her kids. Off to the right, there were several first-graders with teachers watching over them. The third-graders were on the jungle gym, and she was in charge of watching them.
At one point, she saw some kids running into this open field with grass and a couple of trees. They were running toward one giant tree off in the distance.
So, she started yelling at them to come back. They weren’t listening, so she walked toward the tree. The kids began running toward her, but she continued walking over there to make sure no other kids were hiding.
When she got to the tree, she looked behind it and didn’t see anyone there. By then, it was time for the children to start lining up to go back inside.
She counted the kids, but for some reason, there were 19 of them. She peered at their faces more closely and noticed that the last five kids in line were unfamiliar.
She asked one of the kids what his name was and if he was in Miss Woods’ class. He said no and added that he just wanted to play.
The other kids behind him sat as still as statues. They didn’t even blink or utter a word. The rest of the class saw these strange children as well.
She told them that they couldn’t come inside until they found their teacher. So, they ran off to the big tree in the distance. She was a little concerned and went over to the tree to check on them.

However, they had disappeared without a trace. And that’s the story of how she witnessed a bunch of ghost children playing outside at recess one day. Spooky, right?
Several TikTok users described their own previous encounters with ghost children in the comments section. They are surprisingly more common than you think.
“We had ghost kids at my elementary school. Apparently, the school was built on an old Native American burial ground,” shared one user.
“Reminds me of when I was younger, and ghost kids played in our house with [my sisters and me] at night,” commented another person.
“I worked at schools on weekends alone. They played and laughed at the end of the hall. They would streak back and forth outside my door. Scared me at first, but knew they were playing with me. Didn’t like them rattling the outside door, though,” wrote a third.
